i'd say it's a comparatively down year for films but it seems like the fall and december will kick things into high gear
That’s pretty much the reality of mid-budget not wanting to get swallowed up by a Disney property at this point. Gonna push them all to the end of the year.
I find most years a lot of the best stuff comes out towards the end of the year, or at least thats when i usually get it because the UK is always behind.
Seeing this tonight. Know basically nothing about it other than it's a Bong Joon Ho movie and I loved Snowpiercer
Ya'll just saw this, blown away. Some quick thoughts under spoilers before I read this whole thread, HEAVY SPOILERS, DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT. The first half of the movie was fun, everything after the basement reveal was a whole other level. I never saw something as different as that reveal coming, the husband was great, the fight was amazing, when she brought the peaches back out! That kick! So brutal in all the right ways, over the top but still natural somehow. And the ending was insane. You could really feel inequality when they're planning this picturesque party and the family is in a shelter. The flood felt so brutal, I was so angry at the rich wife being happy about the rain, and everything with the smells really built up perfectly. I could feel that rage, that contempt, they had no idea what it was like for them, and after watching what happened to his daughter? The ending was just fantasy I feel like. I knew where the dad would hide, but buying the house felt like a dream while he was in the half-basement. I was waiting for Min to come back, like those were his parents hiding there or something, all part of the same con. Incredible film, hilarious, and tense, and dark, and so convincing about the cruelty of such high inequality in the world.
Something that hit me last night, there's no scene, or shot, or word, or even breath, that isn't absolutely necessary. I don't think I can remember a movie where everything works, everything logically follows with no filler, and no time is wasted. The pacing and characterization is all pitch perfect.
also I would love a poster of the scene where Ki-jung is sitting on the toilet smoking while everything around her is flooding
