Finally watched this today and it lived up to the hype and more, holy shit. I went in only knowing it was a critique on class relations and nothing else and there were like five different parts where I thought I knew what was happening only for a whole new massive part of the movie to reveal itself. I was literally already thinking "this is fucking great" during the part where the family was taking all of the jobs, not realizing that I had seen almost none of what even made the movie stand out so much yet lol. Story beats aside, even the dialogue and characters were fantastically written. There wasn't a single character that I didn't care about, I even liked the rich family at times, especially the wife who felt like a genuinely sympathetic character at certain points, even though I know I wasn't really supposed to lol. I was also absolutely blown away by the ending, never saw anything like that coming in a million years. I can already tell I'm going to be thinking about this movie for a while
Managed to avoid all spoilers and plot before my viewing tonight. Conclusion: infuriatingly good. Fuck.
After having watched this I am very interested in the upcoming series based on Bong Joon-Ho’s comments about it exploring side characters and story beats between what we saw here. Kim Ki-taek mentions his concerns about the previous driver and what may have happened to him so I imagine that may be one story. Moon-gwang shows up to the house, her face bloodied and bruising, and when her husband asks what happened to her she tells him not to worry about it for now. There’s another one. I took the “ghost” to be Moon-gwang’s husband coming up for food, which is why (other than witnessing a bloody murder obviously) the kid fainted at the sight of him during the party. I could see exploring what it was like for him to live underground, cross cutting with that moment where he comes upstairs at night while the boy is eating cake on the floor. Maybe an episode exploring Min’s experience either before or after he leaves. Hell, I’d be interested in an episode about the guy who keeps urinating outside of their home.
Just discovered this part of chorus! I only want to say that I saw this one back in december and am really hoping for it to win Best Picture. It's still showing in independent theaters here so I might go watch it again soon. Loved it so so so much!
Bong Joon Ho Talks Genesis of New Black-and-White 'Parasite' Cut Black and White cut coming to select theaters this weekend.
Is there an official trailer for the black and white version? I think the movie looks phenomenal as it is, and just putting a black and white filter over it seems lame. True b/w needs to be lit differently to really pop. But I am curious
This was not my favorite movie of the year, but it’s probably the best. It didn’t move me or make me feel alive like so many other films I’ve seen this year, but the craftsmanship is unlike anything I’ve seen in a long, long time. It’s technical perfection.
Just watched this incredible. edge of my seat for the entire second half. i havent read every page of this thread so idk if its been discussed but i thought that madamme very randomly speaking full english sentences would come more into play or have some other meaning? Trying not to overthink this but holy shit i want to watch it again already.
Finally got around to seeing this. Amazing. Thought these were some of the most compelling characters I've seen in a movie in a long time
The sewage monsoon was my favorite scene. Just so intense, and chaotic. Then when they all end up in the shelter totally a nod to The Host.
