Also it's not like this song is bland pop. The drums are ridiculously good (welcome back Zac) as is the bass (assuming JMJ). It's not as if the guitar and synths are straightforward either, it's clever and meticulously crafted. I feel like Hayley shouldn't be required to turn it up to 10 on every single song and she did an awesome job lyrically providing a juxposition against the feel good of the song musically. Very impressed.
If they're opening the record with this single- it's probably safe to say this type of sound will carry the record... damnit
Its not bad but I feel like it should be a side project kind of like when NFG did International Superheroes Of Hardcore, unless they plan on this being their style for the forseeable future. I'd probably like this more if I wasn't already a fan of the earlier Paramore and was expecting something more rock.
i like fun music with serious lyrics i feel like a lot of people who never liked paramore will like them now, esp if this song is an indication of their sound for the album also, a lot of people are still in denial that that's actually Zac on the drums again haha
I agree the last album was their most "pop" release to date but still had a good amount of rock elements. This sounds like straight up pop from 1983.
Their last record did not sound like this at all. It was pop but still had a lot of rock elements which worked very well in my opinion.
Not really feeling this, but then again, I didn't like "Now" when that came out and that was the blandest song on the album. They've got more than a lifetime pass to let something like this slide. I dig the video though. Reminds me of those Bubble Tape commercials.
They were 14/15 when they started writing music. I think it'd be pretty disingenuous to make the same generic pop punk music their whole careers. Don't get me wrong, their early stuff changed my life, but to see them constantly grow as artists has truly been a treat. Paramore (self-titled) reflected a real maturity I feel, and I will hold out on judging until I hear the rest of this album. Paramore always have those sweet little pop tunes interlaced with the real meaty songs, so we will see.
Yeah but that album had a lot of poppy songs on it and I think this song is a natural progression from that and i don't think its very surprising. I'd bet on the album being pretty diverse too like their last.
I feel like this song would fit pretty well on Self Titled. Definitely wouldn't be an oddball. It's pretty similar just in tone it feels... brighter, more colorful.
BLESS I LOVE IT. I love the aesthetic, i love the song! it's so cute. i can hear some halfnoise influence in there
I like it, but I can't help but feel like - well, another band doing an 80's inspired song. Musically, this sounds straight outta Walk The Moon's latest record.
I agree this sounds like it could've come straight off the S/T. I like it. It'd be cool if the song that follows this in the album order is unexpectedly heavy (think the beginning of "Careful") but I'm sure I'll be content with whatever these guys put of. Just as long as it's eclectic. :)
Super uninterested in discussing whether this is pop or rock, or whether this sounds like Paramore or doesn't. I am super interested in hearing the rest of the album. Some thoughts: Hayley sounds incredible as always, the song grooves so much, drum and bass are on point, it has a refreshing sound for the band but Hayley's melodies still make it feel familiar at the same time, this song is going to be so fun to dance along to at shows, I hope this takes over the radio this summer.
well this is each our opinions. i disagree and i think back then (especially the brand new eyes-era), paramore were producing much more honest music. what theve made since feels somewhat forced and uninteresting. also i have to point out, Hard Times and Aint It Fun are essentially the same song sonically and lyrically, just more bland this time around.
Man i wanna like this. I think it's a solid pop song. It's not like I dislike 80's influence, I'm all about the stuff I've heard from Dreamcar. I just find this song boring. Something about it just doesn't do it for me.
i am ok with a band going in a more poppy direction, but its usually very dissatisfying to me to just chalk it up to maturity; whenever a band mentions maturity it almost always means pop, and i think thats silly. i thought the rockier songs on self titled were musically the best ones, like part II. i think sometimes people fall into the trap of labeling something better or more mature simply because its different. that said, i don't think this sounds like a "dishonest" progression; the song is still solid (though i dislike the guitar) and i'm looking forward to hearing the rest.
I am digging the sound, love the guitars and drums, the verse part is really catchy, the chorus is okay tho, i like the final chorus the most, but I am not digging the "hard times" part with the low voices, just kinda takes me out of the song, and then that rock bottom part was weird, sounds like Haley is almost British there which is weird, and that also took me out of the song, but other than that I am digging what they are trying to do.
I laughed at the Crash Bandicoot comment, but the intro is just so IT! haha ;D I like the song, it doesn't really sound like 1975 to me, and I think it would even fit on their previous album, which was diverse as hell! ..On top of that I'm excited Taylor plays this awesome Bilt guitar, and the drums are pretty stellar all in all! I'm sure the album's gonna contain more different tunes.
People who don't like this must not like dancing or having fun or feeling happy (lol i'm mostly kidding) I love this song, its going to sound PERFECT on the next Parahoy-whenever that may be
