can easily see why some might not vibe with this but man i love the atmospheric vibe they have going on here. "The News" is the only track that probably won't click with me, just not a fan.
Listened a few more times and dig it more than before. Really don’t like any of the spoken word parts though. Just doesn’t work for me on this album.
"I know that regression is rarely rewarded, I still need a certain degree of disorder; I hate to admit getting better is boring, but the high cost of chaos WHO CAN AFFORD IT?" really does it for me, so call me team CCC
Outside of "C'est Comme Ca", I'm really in love with this album. I can see why it's polarizing but I'm glad they went for the weird, yet stayed authentically Paramore. "Thick Skull" is giving me some serious Manchester Orchestra vibes, "Running Out of Time" is one of my favorite performances from Taylor and Zac, Hayley sounds incredible on every song. Just an all-around great album.
I really like this album. Excited to dive more into it. I do think they were doing something special with After Laughter though.
I went through their entire discography front to back at work today. Man. Every single song hit and their progression as a band is one of the best. They've always been just on the outskirts of my all-time favorite bands but I might be reconsidering that.
After Laughter is a 'summer album' and Paramore always been a 'summer band' to me. This album is good, creatively, but it's not something I see myself coming back to. I much more prefer the vibe that AL gives.
thinking about how they add an extra bar in the last chorus of Figure 8 just to give Hayley room to belt. so good.
Crazy, this has hooks for days! Also all the little sonic details that spark my interest, I'm gonna go back to this record a lot
is this polarized else where or just here? I ask because it seems its getting critical acclaim and currently has their highest album score on RYM. I realize that's not a total scope but just seems off compared to the reaction here.
oh shit, that TikTok video of CCC bridge someone posted a few pages ago and I saved for later to watch, can't fight it, loved that scream
That's good to hear, cause I've been seeing mixed reactions everywhere around me, people dismissing it pretty fast, I think that pitchfork review was the worst examle of that, almost distasteful. My friends seem to love it though, I've been enjoying it a lot too!
