I wasn’t hugely feeling 2 out of the three singles from this, but the album as a whole is good. I don’t know if will ever be the Paramore record I regularly reach for over Riot!, BNE, or After Laughter, but I was wrong to doubt them based on the singles. This is their first attempt at this kind of sound, and I would imagine if they continue this next time, it will be even better.
I did a discog run a while back, I don’t know where this falls but probably on the lower end. All I know is self-titled is my favorite by a large margin.
The more I listen to this album, the more I think that "Liar" and "Thick Skull" are really the standouts for me, lyrically and vocally. That, and with each consecutive listen, I can find the ties to AL/s-t/PFA/FfV, and I absolutely love that. If I had to rank JUST the paramore albums at this point, it'd be After Laughter Self-Titled This Is Why Brand New Eyes Riot All We Know
This just reminds me of the Twitter meme: ::Listens to “This Is Why”:: Hmmm..I’m getting a lot of “This Is Why” vibes from this.
This just keeps growing on me. Every member of the band is firing at all cylinders on this. Truly impressive stuff.
When the moon hits your eye (6) Like a big pizza pie, (6) that's amore (4) When the moon hits your hands (6) And you mispronounce bands (6) Paramore (4)
Okay, I think I see where my disconnect is coming from. For mispronounce to work in place of pizza pie, you have to sing the pro part on a higher note than mis, which doesn't feel natural to me. My brain wants to keep mis and pro the same note, so I get veered off.
Paramore albums to me are reverse chronological order, where AL is the best and AWKIF is the worst. love AWKIF’s tone though. the album has a distinct, consistent atmosphere to it and other pmore records dont really do that again until After Laughter not sure where TIW is for me yet but i do think it is definitely the band’s most congruent album in terms of motif
