It’s not thaaaaat different from AL, so it’s funny it’s so polarizing. If AL was daytime, this is kind of like a nighttime version of that.
I think this album will be a grower for a lot of people. I really liked it on my first couple listens, and now I love it and still feel like I have so much left to discover in it
I thought this sounded quite experimental on first listen, then second listen threw me for a loop like, "Man, these songs aren't nearly as weird as I thought the first time around." Now I think it's one of their catchiest ever. I even gave a heads up to my coworker who loves Paramore but isn't super into experimental stuff, but turns out he'd already listened to it and he looked at me weird when I said it was experimental. He thought it was pretty immediate and the singles were the strangest tracks here.
Idk if anyone’s mentioned this yet but I adore the rasp in Hayley’s voice in the big man little dignity chorus
right now my favorite moment from Hayley on this is probably “just for a second it all felt simple, I’m already missing it” in Crave. in general that might be my favorite chorus in the whole record.
really loving this album, it has so many hints of heaviness and experimentation throughout, while still maintaining an accessible and mature feel overall. it's genius honestly. hayley is showing incredible range here, knowing when to keep it toned down, but also throwing in rasp, yells, and belting. the instrumentation is artsy and strange. i can see why some don't like this direction, the previous albums have been focused on being fun and immediate. this one is darker but has so much personality. definitely feels like they have found and become more confident in their direction.
i was hoping you would say "if AL was daytime, this is kind of like later that same day" just for the joke but nighttime version is true.
I’ve seen some criticisms about the lyrics which I find pretty baffling tbh. I’ve always thought Hayley was good, not necessarily great as a lyricist but she’s really spitting here.
i couldn't tell you a single lyric from this except "this is why i don't leave the house" and "nanana"
I’m proud of you. I can’t wait to see you evolve past that. But you have such a beautiful start. wait, this is the PARAMORE thread? Oops.
Thanks dad! but really, I just don’t pay close attention to lyrics. Especially after only a couple listens.
Optimal first listen for me is in a dark room with headphones or my surround speakers as I read the lyrics along with the album.
My phone screen doesn’t require external light. This isn’t a game boy in the 90’s where you have to buy a separate attachment to click on to your phone and power with AA batteries to see the screen. Am I aging myself here? Haha
