You First is great, I know Taylor said he kind of gave up with the guitar parts but I think that ended up working just fine.
Yeah, I totally understand and appreciate that people love this album and I'm happy for the band that people are enjoying it. But for me personally, it's nearly a complete miss. There were some songs I couldn't even get through at all. I simply don't vibe with this direction at all.
I haven’t listened to Paramore much outside of their most famous singles throughout the years. I listened to This Is Why once today. I like pretty much every song but don’t really like it as an album. I’m not sure I can articulate why.
I appreciate the diverse range Hayley displays. It makes the moments where her voice cracks or gets rapsy hit even harder. I have no complaints in the vocal department
Here are two bands I never thought I’d reference in the same sentence, but there are some parts on this that remind me sooo much of what Citizen was shooting for on Life In Your Glass World. Big Man, Little Dignity in particular would straight up be on that record if they were as equipped to pull off this sound
Far enough, haha. I adore it to pieces. I feel like every section is super tight. The guitar tones are phenomenal, the pre-chorus feels like the moment before something important. It gets me pumped every time without fail. The second verse bounces around in such a cool way with the guitar and bass, especially with that little pause. The beginning section of the bridge has that eerie atmospheric post-rock feel to it and I think it was the first real glimpse of Hayley’s darker sounding material (except, probably Decode). Chorus is massive too, though a lot of people dont seem to like it. Also, outside of the track itself, I’m a massive fan of the Radio 1 performance. I have a lot of love to give for this song. One of my favs for sure. I think Turn It Off is their best tho.
I've said that as a reason for not clicking with an album. I Recently said it about Folie à Deux. I think it's a fair observation for not enjoying an album, for me at least. If nothing stands out or is memorable to me then enjoyment is down, typically. (not necessarily a bad song/album). Folie has grown on me though because, yes, I played it more. Memorability by repetition. On This Is Why I've only heard the back half of the album once. The front 4 songs are SO infectious. Excited to give this some more attention later today after work.
On my second listen now. I can see crumbs of things I absolutely adore but it’s just not clicking as a whole the way past stuff has. Really enjoy the second half of the album more than the first half C’est Comme Ça is the best song on the front half
Jamming to this with my 2.5 year old and she loves running out of time. Her mind was blown when I told her the singer and her and Hayley have the first name too haha
people saying this doesn't have hooks, please explain why I've had a bunch of parts from the whole album stuck in my head today
