I never got into the singles but im listening to the album and it is fine? I don't hate it but I also am not sure how often I would come back to it lol. but I am enjoying the back half of the album so far. I think I have to be in a certain mood/vibe to really get into it.
The "just like a stray animal I keep feeding scraps, I give it my energy" part of You First makes me feel like I'm floating
This was okay. Definitely not my favorite Paramore album. There are some moments on here I find interesting but I don’t think I’ll return to this a ton. Although maybe that will change with subsequent listens.
Little over halfway through my first listen, and I can already tell this is going to grow on me immensely, but my god, the production. There's such an incredible levity, openness and distinct clarity to each instrument. I really don't usually notice or get hung up on that stuff, so the fact that it's so apparent to me here definitely says something. Taylor and Zac both sound so incredible. Hayley kind of goes without saying, but their playing is as unmistakable/signature as her voice on this.
My pride hates it, because I didn't need another reason to be a dork that likes wandering around Target.
i'm doing a discog run and i just got to brand new eyes and can i just say: I CAN'T BELIEVE WE ALMOST HUNG IT UP
Paramore is my favorite band. I've loved everything they've tried (except Grudges), from their early emo days to their poppiest of pop. Unfortunately, this isn't clicking right now. The general sonic pallet on this album isn't my favorite and I'm a big melody person, and I can't find any melodies that I love and can remember afterwards. I enjoyed the pre-release songs and another one or two today, but the rest is meh. I love Taylor's style and he's just shining throughout, that's probably my favorite part of the album. I can commend them as well on their musicianship, I can tell they're growing and are just as talented as ever, objectively. Personally though, again, right now, it's just not for me. It's Paramore though, I don't hate it at all. Gonna keep trying. Feeling a generous 7/10 1. Slay Comme Ça 2. Running Out Of Time 3. Big Man, Little Dignity 4. This Is Why 5. The News 6. Crave 7. Thick Skull 8. Figure 8 9. You First 10. Liar S/T Brand New Eyes Riot! AWKIF AL This Is Why
The instrumentals and production on this are really good, unfortunately I don’t find myself caring because the songs themselves range from dull to actively annoying (looking at you C’est Comme Ca)
i still really enjoy the title track but this is a certified snoozer so far. Looking forward to the last few songs which folks have seemed to enjoy most.
Maybe I'm just brainwashed but this mixed reaction is completely wild to me, we can't all be listening to the same thing
yeah this is as close to being an objectively exciting and creative record as i've seen but i'm trying not to come off like someone who's shooting down all criticism. "dull" and "snoozer" just really don't make any sense to me
Title track, Figure 8, Liar, and You First are all really really good. I don’t need to hear any of the other songs ever again. Thick Skull isnt bad but, i just dont love this slow Paramore sound.
honestly all of her comments in live performances about this are so cringey to me. i have nothing but respect for her choosing to stop performing a song due to content/lyrics and also fully respect her decision to decide fuck it we’re gonna play it after all, but ive seen multiple videos where she like, starts the song by saying something like “lets all get cancelled” or “who wants to get cancelled” - YOU chose to stop performing the song lol Just such weird behavior
I think there's a pretty distinct break in style and genre influence pre and post-S/T and this falls very firmly on the post-S/T side of the fence (obviously), so anyone hoping for them to retread really any sound they've done previously will likely be disappointed
I can absolutely understand most of the criticisms; I'm not sure I agree with them, but I don't think they're out of left field.
It's still just so crazy for me to someone to listen to a record the day it comes out and say "none of the melodies have stuck with me"
