Immediately love this album. Obviously will need more time/listens before I start ranking this against their other albums. But as someone said before, this band really came into their own once Taylor started having a heavier hand in the songwriting. Self Titled-AF-TIW is a band in a whole other league than the three albums that came before it.
Two and a half listens in and a little disappointed so far. Much of the post punk stuff from the singles feels like a head fake. Some cool rhythm work.
Also there aren’t any answers to the overwhelming existential despair that we feed ourselves with media consumption.
first run through solid listen, side a + b feel like competely different vibes which I enjoy. excited to keep going back and see what else clicks. "Liar" my favorite besides "This Is Why" currently seems hard to over listen to, what a jam.
After Laughter probably still tops for me so far but gotta give this more time, I still absolutely love it.
Why has Hayley been saying they were "cancelled" for saying "whore" in Misery Business? I thought they came to the conclusion to stop playing it on their own?
Echoing what someone mentioned above but it feels a bit like 2 EPs, with the first half being post-punk oriented. Have the admit the second half is a little bland musically to me. But really digging most of the first half.
It's not like some jarring difference between the two halves, the whole thing feels pretty cohesive. It's a very good album and I'm glad the post-punk influence is kept pretty minimal. That's a style that rarely works for me across a full album, but I enjoy it as a flourish.
NGL some of the songs on this are giving me Zooey Deschanel's band from the movie Yes Man vibes lol. Probably the somewhat similar vocal styles being used
I think I was a bit let down on first listen having expectations for more of a pop punk feel. But on second time through with my indie/Arctic Monkeys/Laura Marling ears on it was quite enjoyable. Liar is definitely a standout.
Only song that didn't really do it for me is "You First." Will have to revisit After Laughter to see which one I like more (they're both great)
I’ve got no criticisms for this record but I don’t think the vibe is for me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ shame too because I absolutely love AL
I just ordered that vinyl for pickup at the Target down the road from my work haha. I think the gold color fits the vibe of the record more so than the others.
Album was fine, just not for me. It has some cool moments, many that mostly bored me and I dont feel compelled to come back to it. Back half was inherently better than the first half.
