there's songs that i've heard a million times that i still couldn't tell you what a chunk of the lyrics actually are.
I also no longer pay that much attention to lyrics because most music consumption nowadays is when I'm working, doing chores, walking place to place in the city, working out, etc. As long as the lyrics aren't absolutely terrible, I really don't mind.
Coheed are my favorite band, but there are parts of those first four albums I still have no idea what Claudio is saying. Dude had some weird inflections in his singing voice for a while there.
most times in the car, my wife and i will be quietly listening to music and she'll be like "oh that's a great line" and i'll ask "what did they say?" haha. i pay attention to the vocal melodies and harmonies before i even pick out the specific words.
The best is when I have my own string of words or nonsensical noises I make whenever I'm singing along to a song I've listened to hundreds of times but never figured out the actual lyrics to a certain part of

Yea this kicks serious ass, of course. You First is literally everything I want lyrically, absolute banger.
Back in the CD era one of my favorite rituals was getting a new CD, popping it into the stereo and laying down on my bed and reading the lyrics along with the album
lyrics are everything to me just because i grew up obsessed with words / writing. there's only one musician that scratches the lyrical itch for me so i gave up hope as i got older that anyone can satisfy that part of me. what i wanted to ask was, what song was taylor talking about that he didn't want on the record and gave up on guitars due to stress?
I kinda hate this, bummer. Just not my kinda music. People saying it reminds them of PFA are crazy though, I would be totally stoked if this sounded like PFA
