People saying the lyrics are too on the nose but I just find them timely. Anyway, song is amazing. Feels surreal getting this kind of old-school Paramore energy in 2022. Absolutely perfect blend of old and new.
i think feeling helpless to address the ills of the world will be relevant subject matter for some time
like, it may be on the nose, but that second verse perfectly describes a position i’ve been in pretty often over the past 2-3 years next paramore song about joining a mutual aid group lol
Every Time I Die's last album could be described by some as lyrics "too on the nose" but god damn if they don't fuckin rip and are absolutely needed statements
song sonically is extremely solid but man the lyrics are terrible to me. i dont mind that they're on the nose, but i think the subject matter is just ridiculously played out and not done particularly well here.
I def prefer the way Anthony tackled these subjects on the L.S Dunes record, which feels a bit more vague and covers a wider range of personal emotions that come with the anxiety of the current state of the world.
The only part that feels a little corny lyrically to me is the bridge with the saturated vox/megaphone effect and I think it has more to do with delivery to me. It feels rappy/dated stylistically like something I’d expect on an early evanescence/papa roach song
I think that’s a valid criticism, but the lyrics don’t bother me. Beyond that, and please don’t yell at me here, I don’t think lyrics have ever been Paramore’s greatest strength.
I wouldn't say they're a strong suit but they aren't usually a drawback, a statement that could be made for a lot of bands
didnt pay attention to the lyrics of this one (tho the lyrics on this is why are not good), but i really dig the news
I'd say Paramore's lyrics are good in that they say what they need to without being cheesy or trite. Sure, they're no mewithoutYou, but there's nothing I would change. They always serve the song.
I think generally think Hayley’s gotten stronger over the years and yeah, AL and especially her solo work has some great lyricism. There just happen to be some clunkers across their discography, which in the scheme of things isn’t something I hold against them at all.
How are you guys even able to make out the lyrics to this song? This is what I hear in the chorus "Something something something heart breaks. something something somethingsomething something shakes. Close your eyes (???) turn off the news"
As someone who is Chronically Online thanks to her job, the lyrics are spot-on. Plus it serves as a good reminder to literally "turn off the news" when I'm not working sooo...
