yeah i don't like this one nearly as much as This is Why, which felt like a new direction for them, whereas this is a bit of a retread. maybe it'll grow on me.

 

The Bloc Party influence is definitely there - it immediately makes me think of Helicopter. Not a criticism.

 

This is Why felt bland to me. Like, theoretically interesting, but just felt very empty.

This has the drive and energy that combines the Bloc Party sound they were going for + the essence of what makes Paramore Paramore.

 

This Is Why took a few listens to get into, this one is more immediate. Definitely feel the Bloc Party vibes. Can't wait for the full record in February!

why does The News (and This Is Why, to an extent) remind me of Incubus' Light Grenades era? Is it the guitar tone?

Yeyeye big BNE vibes from The News, but definitely in a new fresh way. Also can clearly hear the Bloc Party influences. They just don't miss.

Really liked This is Why, this one feels too cringe lyrically, really turned me off. Catchy hook tho, still have high hopes for the album.

100%. I think it’s much like the vibes of when Incubus gave up the muscly, crunchy guitars after Morning View for something cleaner (but still aggressive). If this was Riot Or BNE era, those guitars would be crunching up to 11.

 

This bridge really reminds me of someone, but I can't place it

Edit: Ahh... I think I'm thinking of Courtney Barnett, specifically the bridge of Pedestrian at Best

 

Yup! Loving it. I just preordered the vinyl and I have zero Paramore in my collection but I can tell this record is going to be something else :)
