on the subject of their other work, is anyone else just not as impressed by HalfNoise's output anymore? i was a huge fan when Zac started the project, and even saw him perform that first EP live when he opened for Paper Route during their TPOWT tour (side note: i got to talk to him later and he's legit one of the nicest people i've ever met). i also really loved Volcano Crowe and Sudden Feeling, but after that nothing really grabbed my interest. i didn't listen to the new album, but i remember falling asleep during Motif.
as much as i'd like this as well, i get why they do it, especially since they've also been playing PFA songs. there's a noticeable level of cross-contribution from Paramore's live band (inclusive of the main 3) on both HalfNoise and Hayley's solo stuff, so i guess if they're wanting to position themselves as equals, it's only fair. otherwise, they'd have to cut PFA from the setlist, which i know some people wouldn't be happy about.
Nah. Hayley never got to tour on her music. Playing one song makes sense. Plus hers is far superior to HN. They can do whatever they want. Play one, play both. Based on crowd reaction at my show, it’s extremely obvious what the fans are there for.
Yea I get that, but even then I feel like there's plenty that returns to her more classic style, specifically Crave and Thick Skull where I feel like she both belts and delivers on emotional punch. But that's only two songs out of 10 so I hear you if stuff like CCC really doesn't work for you.
To be fair, Last Hope is my favorite Paramore song. There are plenty of good songs on it, I just don't love the album as a whole
Totally. I just think their first album is easily their weakest effort. Like, it’s good for what it is, but it’s pretty basic in a lot of ways. I like all the albums, but they just got much better at songwriting as they went. So, of course the first album would be weak if that’s true, you know?
Crave is great and definitely one of my favourites on here but would still be in the lower half of any of their other records. Thick Skull is maybe my least favourite on here though, just doesn't really do much for me.
Imo the new album actually flows very well. I’ve seen a couple of the critiques here & there and I kinda get ‘em, but when listening through myself, I don’t feel any issues at all.
In the absolute nicest way possible, it's great for the members that things seem to be more egalitarian now in terms of the band dynamic and who gets a say – compared to the narrative of Hayley being in charge for the longest time – but it results in stuff like HalfNoise getting slots in the live show and that ain't for me. BUT, if it means the band is healthier long term, then that's fine and I'll deal with it!
I'd feel weird playing a song knowing the majority of the people watching would rather just hear more Paramore.
After Laughter is objectively their most successful crossover* album. *crossing over from being a band to which I never listened to being a band with a dope album I really like
I love all of the first five but yeah the self-titled is easily the best one. Such a fun, creative record. They explore a bunch of different sounds on there and nail them all.
Oh man I can't listen to Thick Skull just one time I wanna reply it right away every time I hear it haha But hey at least we agree on Crave!
I would be down for a new album already. This Is Why never grew on me. It's not their worst, but it's my least favorite since brand new eyes. Love self titled, After Laughter, Riot and AWKIF though.
