I’ve cooled on this slightly since it came out, but only slightly. After the first time I heard it I thought it’d be my new favorite album from the band, but now I’d say it’s either in 3rd or 4th place. Some true career highlight songs here, and I love the direction they went in, but it’s probably an 8/10 rather than the 10/10 I was hoping for. Also caring about chart success is dumb.
personally this is probably my favorite album of the year so far (tho there is some stiff competition!) and it is definitely my favorite Paramore record, but it is playing directly to my sensibilities as of late.
I haven’t spun the new Paramore in a minute. But I generally listen to a full discography and move on to the next band. Although, at the moment, I’m going back and forth between new FOB/Andrew McMahon and some live albums. I’ll revisit Paramore again sometime later this year, I am sure.
I think this album is absolutely phenomenal and also it’s settling into 4th in their catalog for me. What a band.
S/T is what brought me back in. Between the drama and me not getting Riot! I was out on the band. Definitely on the Hayley is using the guys thinking at that time. Now we understand why she operated the band the way she did.
I really like the direction on this album and it makes sense that Bloc Party and FOALS are the support. It's actually super Foals-esque in parts and I hope they brought them along on tour because they're fans and were influenced by them. And by that I mean the guitar tones, and the noodly riffs, and the tight syncopated rhythms are similar to that sort of genre. Example 'You First' 'Figure 8' and even 'This is why' are way more akin to a FOALS type band than anything from the pop punk they came from. I have not followed Paramore's career outside of their hits, but this is a huge departure from what I expected (maybe it was hinted at over the last few albums) and a pleasant surprise since I expected sugary hits that weren't going to be for me. I really dig the guitar tones and the mixing.
Judging from their IG comments, there will be a new edition of S/T on vinyl soon. Really hope it has the “new” album artwork.
very intrigued by this possibility. hoping the bonus tracks from Deluxe also make it to vinyl (aside from the original 7 inch for Escape Route/Native Tongue)
Sounds like I'm in the minority but I couldn't really get into this new one after being a huge fan of After Laughter. I'll try to go back to it soon and see if it clicks more for me.
aaaaaaa it's THIS WEEK oh fuck been a casual fan for so long but this year I have become a Paramore Enjoyer
I saw that the cover was labeled “self serenade” on the set list, I wonder if that means she’ll be changing it up every night. The Cranberries are Irish, maybe a hometown hero thing? Taylor Swift did the same thing on her Speak Now tour.
All I Wanted was listed but not played. HOPEFULLY the US portion gets it cus I need to hear that live.
Hayley was having mic problems during/after Caught in the Middle and there was an intermission to sort it so that was the casualty song unfortunately
