This still isn't really grabbing me. It feels like an expansive version of Hayley's solo stuff, which I liked, but just not really vibing with it. It's still not a bad album, but I'd probably have it below After Laughter and alongside AWKIF at this stage as my least favourite. I think some of the hooks and melodies and guitars in this are great, but feels like they should be a bit bigger/louder idk. Big Man Little Dignity is great lyrically but that chorus does nothing for me. You First is a banger though.
went and skimmed thru each of Hayley’s solo records to see if I completely misremembered them and was missing something in the comparisons, but I really don’t hear much of a common thread between them and this record musically personally.
Posted a hypothetical setlist to Twitter and I've learned that people really don't like Whoa lol. Which, I don't even think it's in the top half of AWKIF for me, but it's still fun. I'm not sure if they'll play Thick Skull, I have a feeling it'll be an intimidating song for Hayley like All I Wanted. I also left another TIW song out because it's my least favorite on the album, but I'm not gonna name any names...
After initially not being a fan of ‘This is Why’ it’s grown on me a bit the more I listen. The album still hasn’t grabbed me but I like ‘This is Why’, ‘The News’, ‘Liar’, and ‘Crave’. I struck out on tickets to see them open for Taylor Swift here in Phoenix next month and skipped their Super Bowl concert, but will be seeing them at Hangout Fest in May. I’m excited to see what they play.
It's a song from Zac's project Halfnoise. They've been playing a song of his at most shows since he's been back. Yes, ends after Hard Times, not sure what Twitter did at the bottom.
Here's my ideal setlist for a Paramore show that balances what they've been doing during the TIW tour cycle mixed with a couple of deep cut favorites and the obligatory hits. This Is Why That's What You Get Daydreaming C'est Comme Ca Pressure Caught in the Middle Decode You First For a Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic Brick By Boring Brick The News (One of Those) Crazy Girls Rose-Colored Boy I Caught Myself Emergency Playing God Running Out Of Time Ain't It Fun Hard Times Encore: All I Wanted Still Into You Misery Business
Pressure hasn’t aged very well for me at all but emergency is still incredible. I have no idea how I’d craft a paramore set list that isn’t just my top few songs from each record. For older scene bands who still write and tour, I generally roll my eyes when they play token older stuff, but a lot of their recent singles (and what I imagine are set list staples) have been very hit or miss for me.
Wouldn’t bother me to never see it live again but Pressure is still a definite highlight from the first two albums, if not my favorite of them
I love the majority of this album but it does lose me a bit after You First. That first stretch is fantastic but the last few songs still have to grow on me I think
AWKIF is very easily Paramore's least good record, but I tell ya Emergency has grown even better with time. It might be a top 10 Paramore song for me
As someone who has never seen Paramore before I would like to see at least one song off AWKIF. It's always going to be someone's first show.
That doesn’t mean they have to play a song off their weakest album from 18 years ago though. Like, if the play one, that’s fine. They should play what they want to. But, they don’t owe any audience a song from AWKIF. And it looks like from recent sets that they probably will play one. But, yea, it’s not needed. But they should play what they want to. personally, they should play all of This Is Why and then all of After Laughter. That’d be sick.
personally, they should play all of AWKIF and After Laughter and if there's time, play something else if they want.
Surprisingly, I've also never seen Paramore. I'd be okay with not seeing any songs from AWKIF live though.
I've seen, like, MOST of the pop punk emo bands that I love, but Paramore is one that no matter how many opportunities I could have seen them, it never worked out but now I'll finally get to see them and I'm stoked.
That's crazy! In July, I'll have seen them 3 times within a year, and that's on top of the 8+ other times I've seen them since 2006 haha.
Hahaha I feel that! I've seen Motion City Soundtrack, Panic, Green Day, Blink, etc AT LEAST 3 times. Just never got to see Paramore. I could have seen them at Riot Fest in 2017, but Jawbreaker was playing at the same time and this was their third show in 21 years (and assumed to be a one-off) so I chose Jawbreaker.
I would have done the same thing, even if I hadn't seen Paramore before. A Jawbreaker show is too rare to miss. I still haven't seen them.
