I'm listening to it for the first time right now. I think it's kind of a jam, quite unlike most of their work.
I don't think it's a bad song, just clearly not top 10, or even top 35 in their catalogue for me. It sounds a lot like Taylor trying to imitate Josh's songwriting style in the wake of the Farros' departure before finding his own unique songwriting style (he's even admitted to that happening in the Zane Lowe interview)
if i were making a weird personal paramore top ten that didn't reflect any sort of external reality it'd be like proof born for this i caught myself ignorance told you so ain't it fun tell me how last hope where the lines overlap feeling sorry
tbf "renegade" is prob my favorite song from the singles club but i think all of those songs are kinda not great paramore songs. made me really worry for how the s/t was going to turn out
For a Pessimist I'm Pretty Optimistic That's What You Get Ignorance Playing God Feeling Sorry Where the Lines Overlap Still Into You Proof Fake Happy Grudges Not in order, but there they are.
my single favorite moment in the paramore discography is probably "gimme attention.... i need it nowwwww" in "where the lines overlap"
Playing God Ain't It Fun Grow Up Where the Lines Overlap Proof Turn It Off Last Hope Ignorance That's What You Get I Caught Myself (too early to put AL songs in)
Never Let This Go/When it Rains For a Pessimist Last Hope Careful Daydreaming Future Ain't it Fun Brick By Boring Brick Playing God
Lol, I haven't done a list in forever, even though almost every thread devolves into rankings So here goes: All I Wanted Playing God Brick by Boring Brick Hello Cold World Idle Worship Told You So Tell Me How One of those crazy girls Part II Misguided ghosts
I came prepared: That's What You Get Last Hope For A Pessimist... Misguided Ghosts Idle Worship Ain't It Fun Let The Flames Begin/Part II Careful Tell Me How Future That list is extremely tentative and will likely change again by the end of the week. I think my honorable mentions would go to When It Rains, Ignorance, and Grow Up. Maybe In The Mourning. EDIT: and Proof. Fuck, this is too hard. This band is too good.
Oh ok we're doing this? I love lists so here's mine: Ain't It fun Grow Up Decode For a Pessimist That's What You Get Careful Playing God Last Hope Turn It Off Where the Lines Overlap I'm not ready to include After Laughter yet, since it's all still so fresh.
Also I feel I have to include some mention of the live version of Future, but that wasn't included on my list since there's not an officially released recorded version of the song.
10) Idle Worship 9) Ignorance 8) Looking Up 7) Misery Business 6) That's What You Get 5) Pool 4) Rose-Colored Boy 3) Feeling Sorry 2) Hard Times 1) Ain't It Fun Edit: if you can't tell, After Laughter is the first album to really stick with me.
Something like this I guess Brick By Boring Brick Daydreaming Ain't It Fun Proof Anklebiters Fences For A Pessimist Born For This In The Mourning Hard Times
