eh, I still find the lyrics a bit cliche and lackluster. I would rather skip it. the rest of the album is good-great regardless. idle worship is an easy favorite
Just listened for the first time. Fleshed out thoughts tomorrow, but first: LOW KEY NO PRESSURE JUST HANG WITH ME AND MAH WEATHAAAAAAAAAH k bye
just finished my first listen. first thing i noticed is how dark it is lyrically; comes through in the vocals too and its great. really really like told you so, pool, idol worship, no friend, and tell me how. most of the rest are gonna be growers for me, i'm struggling to get over some of the musical decisions; some stuff i thought was downright cringeworthy (i.e. intro vocals on rose colored boy)
I still recommend people check out the album Holy Fire by Foals. the guitars on at least 3 songs (told you so, pool, tell me how) remind me of them lol
That reminds me, I should revisit Holy Fire. It didn't catch on much with me, but I liked their most recent album a lot more.
I really expected this to just be a fun summer record with a few bangers I'd throw on a playlist every now and then. This wrecked me though and is exactly what I needed to hear right now.
Okay so someone explain to me how this record gets 10 TIMES BETTER every time you listen to it. Also the more I hear the lyrics the more I fall in love with this record, because I just went through a breakup that is sending my mind in loops and some of my thoughts are expressed perfectly by Hayley here.
26 is such a solid acoustic jam, I wouldn't want to skip it... the idea that as you get older it is harder to hold on to he hope of yours dreams idk that just resonates so hard with me
Finally listening now. It's 2:30 am and I have to get up in 4 and a half hours but this is the first chance I've had to listen the right way. I'm on Fake Happy and this is just breathtaking. I'm going to be a mess by the end of this.
if you don't like this album you have no soul. It's sad, celebratory, and cathartic all at once. The rest of the albums this year can try if they want, but I'm not sure there's much point. (Except Bleachers.)
I'm not sure if anything will beat DAMN for me this year. But don't think After Laughter is a slouch either.
Just finished my first listen. Lots to digest. The two singles stuck out but that's probably natural. Love the mewithoutYou song but wish (as pretty much everyone has said) that you could hear Aaron a bit more clearly.
First time I saw them was opening for Jimmy Eat World at a casino's concert hall in Atlantic City, NJ lol
