Finally listening. Rose colored boy is the best song they've ever written. So I think I'm gonna like the rest
I like this album quite a bit. Idle Worship fucking rules. Also I've never heard a mewithoutyou song in my life so my reaction to No Friend was "Hey, it's the narrator from Razia's Shadow!"
I still don't like hard times but wow every single song so far has been incredible. The hooks are insane I'm on pool right now and in awe
Considering how strong this bands debut is now we have 5 incredible records from them, what a discography.
i don't think this is as staggeringly good as the s/t but it's still their second best record and it's great the whole way through
Forgiveness is unreal, I love that guitar line in the verses so much and how Hayley's vocals just gliiiiiiiide over the whole track
I know that paramore has always mostly been her. But this one feels like it's actually REALLY her, if that makes sense. Like not just that she's having fun, but that's she's confident in her decisions. This is the type of album that does take 3 or however many "scene" albums to form. It was a gradual change, but it also feels so well-formed, like this was the plan all along.
its weird. on my first listen i was pretty damn stoked about the whole thing minus two or three songs. second time i was slightly less stoked on the entirety of the record. third listen right now and im the most stoked ive been about it
i actually feel like this is more of a band record than Hayleys... she seems to let the rhythm and harmony take the wheel and shes just along for the ride. That was my impression on it at least, there are a few less "wow" moments vocally but more "wow" moments instrumentally and rhythmically. Let me be clear that her performance here is incredible but it really feels like 4-5 people in a room just jamming/grooving most of the time. I think these songs will translate really well live bc of that too!.
yeah I mean they've always been a highly collaborative band Since s/t it's been a lot of Taylor coming up with instrumental ideas and then Hayley working melodies over it and everything *2009 voice* PARAMORE IS A BAND
I'm of the same opinion. I mean, it was Taylor who started writing and Hayley said it was hard to find a way to sort of insert herself into what he was doing.
weird comparison but the opening/verses of Caught in the Middle kinda reminded me of Spoon in how they used the guitars as like a rhythmic texture
I see what you're saying. I should clarify I don't think that she did this solo. I agree that the music behind her is the most interesting it's ever been. It just seems like she's so in charge (and I do think part of that is letting the rhythm or drums or whatever shine over her). I shouldn't have understated what the other two members are doing, because it's quite incredible. But I think back to the last album, which I didn't really care for, and think this is the one where she's really making it all happen.
