My random contribution to the thread: I never would've guessed in a million years that mewithoutYou would be Hayley Williams' favorite band, or that she would even be aware of their existence lol. That's certainly unexpected.
She adds vocals to two songs on their album 'Ten Stories' EDIT: to add, the songs are 'All Circles' and 'Fox's Dream of the Log Flume' and they are both outstanding as is all mwY
"Fake Happy" "26" and "Pool" are definitely highlights. I could see an argument for "Grudges" or "Caught in the Middle" or maybe "Forgiveness" being "drags" ... but still, probably not.
Grudges, 26 and Forgiveness were the only songs I wasn't super into on first listen but they were all still good. I feel like 26 at least will grow on me a lot.
Interesting. Genuinely wouldn't expect that, outside of the internet I literally have never met anyone IRL who even knows that band exists unless they're already deep into post-hardcore music already.
you aren't in the fantasy baseball/football/basketball/league of leagues so you aren't quite special enough
Hayley talking about them in interviews all the time is how I got into them back in 09 haha. Actually, like 90% of my current music taste can be chalked up to this. She also got me to check out Death Cab, Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Date Real Estate, Tegan and Sara, and the Swellers. (last one really changed my life because I made SO many of my closest friends running a dorky fuck yeah tumblr for them.)
This album really builds off the "Ain't it Fun" and "Still Into You" sound. I really like it! Really curious to see the reception of this album in the mainstream (or even among not Paramore fanatics).
Honestly same. I remember always checking out any band she'd talk about or would rep their band shirts on tour (as sad as that sounds haha).
That's really cool! I've been giving mwY more listens and tbh they haven't really clicked with me so far, but I know they mean a lot to people who are into them. But anyway, really cool that Hayley's music taste has gotten you into so much stuff! Back to the album itself, almost halfway through and Fake Happy is my favorite so far. Really curious to hear Aaron Weiss' contribution even though I'm not really into mwY, I can't imagine him really fitting in this album at ALL so I'm hoping I'm proven wrong.
I really like half this album, and got really bored with the other half. Not in order, but some songs were great and some just weren't. Would've made a great EP. Ill keep spinning it though. Maybe when I become more familiar with the songs, they'll grow on me.
this album gives me life. I'm moving to LA from London on Saturday and this is going to get multiple spins on the flight
Fake Happy and 26 are great, but I don't get Pool (sorry everyone). Picks up again for me at Idle Worship. Again, this way my first impression, so it'll probably grow on me, my favourite songs from S/T were the ones I liked least at first.
Having a tough time dealing with the rest of my work day now that I'm trying to avoid reading this thread
I'm only through the first 6 songs but Forgiveness was my favorite song so far. I love a lot of their ballady stuff (like "Only Hope") though so that's not surprising. Song was goddamn gorgeous. No way it drags the front half down.
