I heard my first Paramore song when I was around 10 (so around 9 years ago). My babysitter (lol) showed me the video for crushcrushcrush and told me about seeing them at Warped Tour.
I just gotta say, I have been having a great time in this thread with y'all! Lots of nostalgia, and I am so hyped for this album, after not caring for S/T much at all. I hope it's as good as we are all hoping!
When I bought AWKIF (summer 2006 I think) it didn't leave the CD player in my car for a month. My mind was absolutely blown by this band and the album. My parents were divorcing and they had a video where they were playing on a rooftop and they talked about how some of them had broken families and that was what Emergency was about. I never looked back after that; they've been my favorite band ever since.
First time I saw Paramore was on their short run of Warped Tour dates in 2011. I wasn't even supposed to go, but my friend called me the morning of with an extra ticket. I wasn't even a huge fan at this point, but I knew they were a big deal, so I was excited to see them. I feel very lucky I got to go to that, because a) I'm pretty sure it was one of their first few shows back after Josh and Zac left, and b) it seems like it may be the last Warped Tour shows they ever do (although you never know), so it's cool I got to see them kind of in the bridge between the old and new era of the band. It's also what jump started me into becoming a huge fan, so obviously that was important too. (I've seen them 3 times since on the S/T Tour [the one that ran in the fall after the album came out], the Monumentour, and the Writing the Future tour). Definitely one of the best live shows around, and I can't wait for Riot Fest (and hoping I can work out at least one other time to see them this year).
Ahhhh I remember finding paramore so well. I was 14 and babysitting my siblings because we had had a half day at school and the video for misery business came on MTV2. Spent the rest of the day learning everything I could about them and begged my mom to take me to hot topic to buy Riot. My dad bought AWKIF for me a few weeks later. I was having a really hard time and it came at just the right moment. I used to have a ton of their old live videos and interviews saved on my Zune (lol). I just remember being floored by the realization that music could make you happy instead of just helping you express your depression.
Well some people in France already have it but it looks like we won't receive it till may 12th so hold off on finding a soup recipe.
Don't really have a great anecdote for how I found Paramore, I just remember it was right after AWKIF came out and I was like 16. I will say though, that I was in a pop/rock band with a female lead around the time Riot came out and once they pretty much blew up it was alllllll Paramore comparisons. To be fair, we did sound similar, but it was lame because we also sounded like a bunch of other bands in the genre. But of course because we were female-fronted, every critique was suddenly like "oh cool it's like Paramore!!", like we no longer had an identity. I was 18 and just remember being so bitter lol. 10 years later I'm like, yeah being so closely compared to Paramore probably wasn't such a bad thing, even if the reason for it still irks me.
First time I discovered them was when I saw the music video for "Pressure" on Fuse. After this badass moment, it was a done deal for me.
