Enjoying the discussion. And definitely not the place to ask but since we're already talking about recommendations, are there any albums that are similar to Hotelier (Goodness, Noplace) and Mansions (Dig up the Dead, Doom Loop) that released in the last 2 or 3 years? I haven't been up to speed in that span and I'm pretty sure I missed some gems.
I know for my part I tend to go on binges where I will listen to just tons and tons of new albums I've never heard - new or old, and I really love doing that and just opening myself up to new things. I like to challenge myself to listen to something that I normally wouldn't/that's outside of my comfort zone. But at the end of those binges I do usually end up - I don't want to say "bored" - but I start longing for music I'm familiar with; something I can sing along to and that I am already comfortable with (and Paramore is one of the very first bands that always ends up back on my playlist in those situations). I'm also fortunate to be able to listen to music when I'm at work all day, which makes it a lot easier to digest new albums, because if I couldn't, I'd maybe listen to 1/4 of what I do now. On my drive home or at the end of the day, I'm probably just trying to jam to Hard Times for the 3,572nd time. This discussion has just made me realize how weird music is and our subjective enjoyment of it all.
well i'll recommend the new emperor x album again for the hotelier similarities, he's a little weirder but his voice sounds like christian at times and they've played together a bunch and christian has even played as part of chad's band
threads is in my top tier pantheon of records so i am quite excited along with reconstruction site, emergency and i, and western teleport (though we'll see where the new one lands.....)
also this is sort of random but kinda connected does anyone else use RYM? I recently brought my account back from the dead and rated a shit ton of stuff but would love to add more ppl / use them for recommendations
used to us it a lot to see which records to check out and for when i was genreing my itunes forever ago, haha
it's weird going back to a website whose layout looks straight out of 2007 but yknow it's a fun way to catalogue stuff
I go on there to check ratings quite a bit but never actually made an account lol... I still use Sputnikmusic to rate music a lot, even though the community is awful and I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone haha
oh sputnik, hahaha. i got a bunch of my old writers from there, picked out the cream of the crop mostly, hence why a bunch of them ended up back there as official staff writers haha. weird community though
I'm a contributing writer there currently but honestly never feel like just joining in random discussions in the community anymore, it's become too toxic. What site do you run? I feel like I've likely heard of it.
i had an old site like a few years ago from 2009 to 2014 and just started a fun new project check the avatar text
that's such a weird tour for so many reasons, the band was super young and didn't have any push going at that point and weren't a UK band, and then it took another like three years for them to really start gaining a fanbase quite a lot of luck that didn't really immediately pan out for them, hah
