Wow, definitely a fantastic compliment when Elton John is talking about your music in a positive light!
Never thought there would be a Paramore album I know front to back and return to regularly. They really captured lightning in a bottle with this record.
It should be a single damn it The way Hayley sings the word "us" in here The Lines Overlap is my favourite moment in any Paramore song. Especially the acoustic one
It's five seconds longer and definitely brings some instruments more forward in the mix, like whatever that instrument is at 1:24.
i mean it's just an alternate mix, not a different recording, so it's just changing how focused some instruments are
I’m honestly surprised there hasn’t been a BIG crossover hit single from this album yet like there was for the last one... Hard Times got some alternative airplay and that’s kind of it. What do you guys think the reason for that is? I really enjoy this album, but maybe it’s similar to CRJ in that it’s just not being marketed well?
It's tough to say. I didn't expect "Ain't It Fun" to get as big as it did, but was glad to see it take off. I don't know if the subject matter or the sound of the singles just don't mesh with the sound of mainstream radio. It seems to be in-line with something like Walk The Moon. But who knows. Top 40 is a fickle beast. They're doing well on tour, so that's really all that matters.
I think from past discussions I might be in the minority but despite the pop sound I didn’t think this would carry over to radio well at all. I’m struggling to find the words to explain why but it just seemed to me like the songs each had something really specific that reduced its marketability. I’d elaborate but I’d just be listing my qualms with each song haha I thought told you so stood the best chance. It’s a pretty clean song without anything really weird or unusual about it but really catchy.
I know the radio stuff works differently in the UK, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised to be walking around shops and hearing Hard Times or Told You So come on.
This album wasn’t about selling. Hayley didn’t want it to be insanely popular. This is documented on an instragram Post after the release. Super short roll out and lack of marketing were the reasons why it didn’t blow up, but it was also done that way purposefully
To have a big cross over single you'd have to be actively marketing a single to Top 40. They haven't. On purpose.
Interesting. They certainly don't need a huge radio single at this point in their careers, so that makes sense.
I feel like there is a real sense of community around this album (and obviously band) that does not happen for very many albums. It's very personal, it's about painful, deep stuff, and so I think it makes sense that they are keeping it between them and their fans.
I loved Riot back in the day. Was a casual fan of BNE and S/T but this just blows everything out of the water imo BNE has also grown immensely on me and is definitely the second best. Love S/T too
