prawn guys, keith from empire empire, carmen from young statues, all some of the nicest band people i've ever met and i'm super honored that i can call them friends now. omg
keith is horrible. no just kidding i'm kidding i love him. i've never met anyone. i'm too anxious. the only reason i have that pic with now, now is because @Joe4th and my boyfriend pushed me at them and encouraged me hahaha.
Evan from Pinegrove was probably the nicest band member I've met. Stefan from PUP is awesome, I ran into him at a festival after Brand New's set.
evan weiss is incredibly nice as well, i brought him in for a studio session and he personally introduced himself "i'm evan" to everyone in the room and we were like "mhmmm we know" hahah
I haven't met many musicians, but have thankfully never had a bad experience. Ones I can remember off the top of my head: Geoff Rickley – super nice and humble Chris Carrabba Chris (guitarist from Bowling For Soup) – randomly ran into the whole band wandering around Warped Tour one year and he gave me a hug Nic Newsham – met him a couple times and he was always great, one time we had a conversation about our best thrift shop finds A few members of Simple Plan after their merch table collapsed and fell on my foot at a random radio show they were doing here
The guys from The Audition were super nice. This was back when Brand New just dropped TDAG so we chatted about that outside this tiny pub in London where'd they'd just played with Gay For Johnny Depp. Also Jeff Goldblum at his jazz night might be one of the best people. Just walking around before during and after the show, chatting to everyone and taking photos. I met him outside the venue and we had a good solid 30 minute chat about all sorts of things. He told me I smelt good so I'm never changing my Tom Ford cologne.
Can confirm Evan Weiss is a nice guy. Everyone in Foxing are really nice, met them a few times. The guys in Balance are cool as well, I talked with Jon about hip hop and basketball for like 30 minutes when they opened for Title Fight once. Got pizza and chatted after a show with a bunch of TWIABP and Pianos peeps a few years ago, all really nice people. Thankfully I've never had a bad interaction with an artist before.
The guys in You Me At Six are incredibly nice. Josh is pretty funny and eased mine and my friend's anxiety when we met the band a few years ago. Twin Atlantic were nice and super talkative as well!
Andrew McMahon is easily one of the nicest people out there. Also, this album is still great. Just set up my new turntable and speakers, need to snag this on vinyl asap.
This album is all about the drums and bass hook, holy god it feels so good. it's so hard to write stuff that rhythmically complex that sounds so accessible and feels so good. Add incredible lyrics and melodies over that with some amazing synth tones and you have a masterpiece. This is their best record.
Met the guys in Young the Giant outside a practice studio. Nice guys, if not slightly aloof. But, I was a stranger, so what are they really supposed to do? Kevin Devine was super nice, even though I completely froze up talking to him and he stared at me for a second, but kept the ball rolling and shook my hand. Soupy was a cool dude, as well.
I got to meet Evan Weiss from when Aficionado had No Sleep bands at their apt in Albany playing basement/living room shows with my friends in CL. Really nice and humble guy. So are the dudes in B&C. Also I serve Ben Folds food on a regular basis.
Oh and I met/spoke to the Title Fight guys quite a few times when they weren't huge and played Albany all the time. My friend has a typo'd Title Fight tattoo across his chest and showed Jamie one time after a show. He looked super awkward and uncomfortable like he wanted to disappear. I told him it was cool seeing him and promptly got my drunk awkward friend away.
I've met Geoff Rickly a couple times and Tucker Rule, both of Thursday. Geoff was so sweet and awesome. And meeting Tucker was the best thing. I've been going through sobriety this year and I mentioned to him how much the set meant when Geoff dedicated Turnpike Divides to anyone struggling with addiction and Tucker was so supportive and said really nice things, signed my tixket saying "stay strong" and introduced me to a friend of his going through something similar. That was really great. Done a couple meet and greets with Circa Survive where I've had full on conversations with Nick (twice), Steve, and Brendan. Very nice guys and very humble and willing to stick around after meet and greet to actually talk and hang out with fans. Other notable musicians I've met... Nick, Mitch, and Josh from Moving Mountains Connor Murphy from Foxing Phillip Jamieson from Caspian Kyle Burns from Prawn Christian Holden from The Hotelier Jason Butler from letlive. Michael Martens from O'Brother Beau Burchell from Saosin
I am pretty exhausted right now, but they were such a treat tonight. I sincerely hope everyone who even remotely enjoys this band can catch them touring on After Laughter because it is just an absolute blast. Those songs in particular translate so well to the live setting. I also think that Hayley might be the best vocalist of my/our generation.
Still giddy after last night. Ignorance with the megaphone is so cool. I'm so here for I Caught Myself being a setlist staple. I almost made it through 26 without crying but that last chorus got me. I hope performing these songs is helping Hayley as much as it's helping us.
So in their interview with Sound Lounge (which was cringey af, just listen to the songs if you can, the interviewer is awful) Hayley mentions that there are actually 2 tracks of vocals running through No Friend. She says one, which you can't really hear until the end, is an email she wrote to Aaron and the other is the band's history/lyrics (the main mix){. I wonder if it's possible to separate the tracks and figure out what the first one is saying despite it being pretty inaudible. It also makes that random "please let us know..." bit at the end make way more sense.
I ripped the audio from the Twitter video for "Accident Prone" and tried to clean it up a little bit. It's hard to get the bus hum out, but the vocals you can hear a little better. In case anyone wanted the mp3.
