Was browsing through my record shop this morning and noticed they'd got a bunch of the black and white marble copies. Immediate purchase!
I mean I guess I more so ask as a "did it go as expected?" I don't find the allure others do, I just wonder if Hayley is friendly or if she shy's away from those types of interactions.
I really like meeting bands, though I don't try as hard now as I used to since I usually have to be up early the next day. Don't need prolonged conversation though, I'm happy with a "hi, great set" and maybe a question or two.
The last time I met an artist was Julien Baker. She was talking with some fans onstage after the show. She was incredibly sweet and kind to me, and I made sure to keep the interaction under 2 minutes as she was literally putting her guitar in a case as we were speaking. I don't ever expect to meet an artist, though. It's more of a surprise added bonus.
I talked to Hayley for a few minutes at Bamboozle in 2008. The band I was touring with at the time was playing the festival and we all went over to the main stage to watch Pmore play for a bit. Their set was starting pretty soon and Hayley was just sorta standing around in my vicinity near the ramp to the stage. Not sure how we started talking, but it was a pretty normal small talk-ish conversation you'd have with any average stranger haha -- talk about some obvious thing happening in your shared environment, crack a few jokes about it, exchange a couple of anecdotes related to obvious thing and a "nice talking to ya, have a good one". Could be way off base but I actually kinda got the vibe she was trying to kill some nerves before going on stage, like how you're suddenly willing to talk to anyone about anything just so you're not stuck in your own head lol. Anyway, she seemed cool af then and still does all these years later.
I met her and the band at warped like.... 2005 ish, I dunno. It was really awkward for everyone, right then and there first aid was rushing someone unconscious out of a pit right next to us, so it was odd. She was nice haha.
zac's drumming on "No Friend" is one of the best parts of the album for me goddamn it's good to have him back
I finally got around to watching the Good Morning America performance the other day. They were so great. I love how candidly Hayley talked about the last few years and needing therapy, with no shame about it. We need more people like that. I thought it was so awkward though when the host was right away like "but right now you're real happy???" Idk host lady. Maybe she is maybe she isn't. Seems like she was kind of missing the point. It kind of irritated me. Hayley handled it with grace of course.
About what I expected. She was friendly enough when I met her. She wouldn't make my Top 10 friendliest celebrities list, but she was nice.
Friendliest musicians I've met: Laura Jane Grace Drew Roulette(Bassist of Dredg) Chris Carrabba Cory Branan Kenny Vasoli Casey Crescenzo Shane Told Atom Willard Dan Andriano Joe Reo(Singer of Hidden In Plain View)
Davey Havok was a disappointing person to meet. It made me not want to listen to AFI for a while. Hunter was great though
i can picture Cory & Laura being great in person. Personal favorite of mine has always been Anthony Green, had the pleasure a few times for various meet & greets and he's always so positive and happy. Frank Turner & Ryan Key are other list toppers as people who seem genuinely interested in conversation when you talk to them and not just looking to sign the autograph or take the picture and move on.
I took birthday shots with Cory and talked to him for about an hour and a half. He was talking about how he really wanted kids, and like a year later his wife got pregnant and had a child. Was so happy for him.
actually someone i didn't expect to be so cool (even though I love the band) is Adam Lazzara. After a long island show a few years ago a few friends and I ended up at the same bar as some of them and we all played pool with them and he bought rounds of shots and kept talking about his wife and family and stuff and was just a cool guy. also was definitely drunk as heck but was a good time.
Reminds me of when Nick from 311 was hanging out at a bar after a 311 show and was loaded. He was buying shots for the entire bar saying "I'm a fucking rockstar, I'm buying drinks"
