I saw Brendon in Kinky Boots in 2017 and it was awesome! He did great, and you can tell he enjoyed doing it
Not sure of the legality, but Brendan could do the album anniversary tour and still make a killing. Really not that hard to imagine.
Most of the bands that are playing the nostalgia card do so because that is when they were most popular or when they were at the height of their career or what the fans want to hear most. Brendon doesn't need to do that since he has been playing major venues - and wrote several big hits - a decade and a half-post AFYCSO without playing 95% of that album. Some of the people clinging to AFYCSO maybe aren't realizing just how big and successful he got after Ryan left? I would bet a LOT of the people going to those arena shows between 2015-2023 aren't even familiar with that album.
Panic's first couple of albums meant so much to me coming up. The last couple of albums are really good and it was awesome to see him become a legend. They weren't my cup of tea but I did see him live when he was touring on Too Weird to Live and the live show was pretty amazing. I think it's cool he bowed out to be more present with his family rather than having some major public fallout. I am sure he will come back to do something in the next 5 years. Pretty Odd is one of the most underrated sophomore albums IMO. Love it so much.
Yeah, Pretty Odd is the best album in their catalog. I definitely would not be surprised to see him come back eventually, and I am sure he will at some point. But I'd be STUNNED if it were for a AFYCSO tour.
I think a lot of the Gen Z crowd has discovered the first Panic album in a similar way they have for the early FOB and MCR albums. So while yes, albums afterwards were massive hits (and propelled Panic into arenas), AFYCSO was a part of a movement that has gotten a massive shot in the arm from younger generations and I think a tour celebrating that would do massively well in this climate.
I just can't see Brendan coming back with the accusations against him. It sounds like some people in here said the sexual accusations were made up? So maybe he's clear there? Once these all surfaced around the release of VLV it really tanked any momentum the rollout had. There's still the racist and transphobic accusations, can't imagine Gen Z would be cool with that?
you keep advancing this theory (that he ended panic bc of accusations that no one has any clarity about except for some 2011-era banter, afaict) that no one here has advanced just listening to viva las vengeance you can tell he knew it was the last panic record
Correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t some of the accusations from a long, long time ago? Don’t get me wrong, an accusation is an accusation no matter the time frame, but my point is 99% of people outside this website would have no idea and if they did, they didn’t seem to care because I believe several albums were released after said accusations. So I think that has little, if anything, to do with him calling it quits.
Because the accusations picked up steam around the time VLV was released. Why is Brendon Urie being canceled? Allegations explored as singer trends on Twitter amid release of new album (sportskeeda.com)
It would definitely do well, but again, he would rather perform the songs he did himself than the ones his ex-bandmate wrote 20 years ago. I Write Sins has only grown more popular with time and Brendon didn't cater at all to the new fans that discovered that song and album in the last few years. He doesn't care.
For real. AFYCSO made them known and popular, but DOAB made Panic a household name and Brendon a bonafide pop star. Is it their best album? In my eyes no, but I could see him doing that.
I was honestly under the impression that Brendon got the treatment that Matty Healy does now where people wanted to find something to take him down for because they don't like him/think he's annoying
matty is a racist pos, not sure brendon has been racist, just more or less a douche who has been shitty with woman Matty Healy’s controversies: Kissing fans, Ice Spice comments and more (nbcnews.com) Rina Sawayama Calls Out Matty Healy’s Racist Comments On Stage at Glastonbury | Them
I couldn’t find the footage of him saying the N word, but here he is singing it. He’s also said it on stream before. There was a huge tumblr and Twitter thread with loads of information but I think we’ve sadly lost those to time. Safe to say I think Brendan isn’t the best person around.
I didn't think any of the singles on DOAB were as popular as the ones that came before (and after) it, but I must not be paying attention
I don't think they were "High Hopes" big, but the two times I had seen Panic since DOAB came out, all those songs were ones the audience went crazy for. "Victorious" and "Don't Threaten Me with a Good Time" in particular. I'm not a huge fan of Victorious in particular but the crowd seemed to dig it.
Interesting. I wonder if they got play on college radio/ESPN or if I somehow totally missed them on Top 40.
