People hated that album when it came out. I'm pleased it's getting some recognition now. (And said it sounded like Fall Out Boy.)
V&V slaps and it has damn near another albums worth of bonus tracks that also slap. Trade Mistakes is their best song imo but theres a lot to love on V&V
Do I need to listen to V&V again? I really dismissed that album when it came out. Just really did not like it. Maybe I was wrong....
I've always loved Vices & Virtues. I like how it sounded kind of like a middle ground between the (I don't know the exact word but like cabaret nature of Fever) and the more organic feel of Pretty. Odd. And for Brendon's first real effort as the lead songwriter, it's even more impressive. My only complaint with the album is all the freakin' bonus tracks. Not because I don't want the bonus tracks but I wish they would release a version for streaming that had them all, because there are some great tracks there. I think there was like iTunes only songs, Best Buy only songs, and some other kind too. That was one of the worst musical phases, everyone was doing that at the time (All Time Low Dirty Work immediately comes to mind).
The Calendar and Trade Mistakes are the best songs on Vices. Would love to hear those songs live again, especially TM since I think it would fit in with the current sound.
Wow todays my bday which has made me realize how closely tied Panic! At the Disco is to my birthday. I got Fever for my bday in I'm guessing 2006? I got PO for my bday after it came out. V&V came out the day before in 2011, and now Pray for the Wicked was announced 2 days before. All I'm trying to say is Panic! is my official birthday band and I celebrated today by listening to their whole discography, which will now become an annual tradition I think.
Here’s my take... Vices & Virtues starts out with the two weakest songs on the album. The rest is great. The bonus tracks are phenomenal, though. I like them more than the majority of the standard album.
As long as we’re comparing Panic and FOB, I’ll say that I’ve always found FOB’s albums to be stronger overall, but I like my favorite individual Panic songs more than any FOB songs
