Statements like these are really surprising to me since back in 02-03, that type of slick glossy pop was mocked for being everything wrong with the music industry. Funny how things are reappraised as time passes. That's not a knock on Michelle Branch or Avril Lavigne as they were big when I was in HS/College and while I never paid much attention to those records, they never bothered me (a few tracks off Lavigne's sophomore album are total bangers). It's more a wider point as to how what is once considered uncool comes back around again to be influential on new bands.

In 2025, people will be writing think pieces on the unrecognized genius of Nickelback's "All The Right Reasons".

I love everything except the title track and I don’t know if “Change” is a great opener. Every other song is literally perfect to me though.

Better than I expected it to be. That said, I don't think I'll return to this a whole lot.

Solid coming of age record that's destined to be formative for a lot of queer teenagers. Stoked for this aspect of it, would've loved to have something that's this forward about sexuality on some of these tracks.
Heather's voice has grown a lot, there's more range here than the debut and she's going to be a force to be reckoned with before long. I think this band is gonna drop a release someday that will catch everyone off guard and there working their way there.

Maybe it's because they're on Dirty Hit and a couple of songs on their debut were produced by Matty but singer's cadence reminds me of Healy's on some songs.

I do remember the negative stigma at the time but I've always been big fans of Avril Lavigne and Michelle Branch. I still love that whole era of pop punk/pop rock that came out in the early 00s. It sucks we don't get many artists sounding like them anymore imo!

I think the irritation at the time was more directed at the fact that there were still a lot of corporate gatekeepers when it came to exposure to wide audiences which is why for the bulk of the 00's we had a lot of blogs which popped up trying to convince everyone that jangly guitar rock was more important than pop music. In the 2010's, everyone finally conceded that music with great melodies and hooks wasn't evil.

How amazing is Tomorrow? The distortion guitars really suit them.

Great album on the whole but some lyrics are a bit cringe. It's a bit like they think 'let's just say anything that rhymes'
