One of my favorite shows, even when it sunk to ridiculous levels it was highly entertaining to watch. Fantastic rotating cast that laid the groundwork for everything to follow
That is pretty much from the opening credits of the first episode. Without Oz, we would not have The Sopranos, but watching the show is difficult now. That prison is more violent than many medium-sized cities.
The Sopranos never touched on anything Oz did. I like the idea of ridiculous and Oz never makes itself completely graspable, leaving realism closer to a projection than the vortex it's portrayed as. The Legacy of 'Oz': A Chat with Tom Fontana - The Toast - The Toast good read
