also Owen covering Lungfish was like whoa https://m.soundcloud.com/polyvinyl-records/owen-descender-lungfish-1
"I tried to make the drums on this song sound like if The Cure wrote a math rock song (not sure if I succeeded)," Kinsella told The FADER over email. this is wild - love it
Mike is one of the most consistent artists out there. Every release is solid. I've got a lot of respect for him.
Is anybody as consistent as this man? Damn. Also gotta say, I love the humor he sprinkles into his songs. I imagine Mike to be a very funny guy. Really can't wait to dive into this
do you follow his Twitter or Instagram? he's hilarious i'm excited to dive into this album more later tonight after work. i listened through it once though and it was just what i wanted: an Owen record. he's so consistent, like you said, and just nails it every time.
I don't, but I'm about too. One of my favorite lines of his comes from Love Is Not Enough. The way he delivers "love is not enough/we need some money" makes me laugh. His dry humor works really well with how sad the songs tend to be.
I hope it is at least better (less terrible) than his VU cover... :P a stain in an otherwise incredible album
i think every Polyvinyl album leaks suuuper early. basically the last 4 or 5 Owen albums leaked about a month early, I think.
Haven't listened yet, but I snagged the LP today with the 15% site-wide discount. Very excited to hear this one.
A Burning Soul is the best track. This is a great Owen album, as they all are, but I'll need to sit with it a little longer. On first listen, the full band instrumentation adds quite a bit, and yet a few of the songs are a bit samesy. Owen albums always get better with time though. I'll be spinning this all summer.
