“Penny” is an early favorite on first listen. Sounds like a long lost At Home With or I Do Perceive track.
This dude sure knows how to open an album, A Reckoning is a great evolution of his sound. He hits a melody where he’d normally come in with a guitar solo but goes in a different direction (the long time fan in me still wanted the solo). Agreed about Penny, I’d put Cursed ID in that category for me, it’s like a blend of Ghost Town and L’ami with some new life to it
Feels like actually a bit all over the place if I try to recall from my first impressions - I'll try to pay more attention to that next time
Cursed ID is peak Owen imo, everything that makes him special all in one, brilliant lyrics, beautiful bright guitars, perfect drumming, the bordering on questionable lines that somehow he pulls off, pianos perfectly placed, gonna go be sad to this now
The liner notes got me haha I think Virtue Misspent is an all timer Owen wise. It’s probably also my favorite song from 2024. Still absorbing the album though. the test pressing is really nice, glad I sprung for it
Wow, I really like this. I feel like he adds just the right amount of instrumental and percussion flourishes to keep things interesting. I get bored of a lot of acoustic singer-songwriter music but this is a cut above. It helps that he’s a masterful lyricist and songwriter as well
As someone who initially didn’t get much from this album, I gave it another spin the other day and: 1) Album greatly benefits from headphones and feels a little more fitting in the fall. Still not the biggest fan, but it did a little more for me. 2) That “goodbye curious” line from Cursed Id is wack as fuck lol. I couldn’t believe my ears when I first heard it.
