Good point. Yeah two of my fave artists ever so I'm stoked. Wish both records were longer but can't complain too much!
Well this is just beautiful, as his solo albums usually are. This will likely be one of my top albums of the year (maybe even AOTY).
Yeah, this is very good. I didn't listen to the last one enough, but I definitely like this better than I remember liking that one. Kinsella has been on a roll with this and the last AF album.
Safe to say from the story the album tells that Mike’s marriage ended through some fault of his own In any case the music is beautiful as always, if a little too similar to The King of Whys. “Dead for Days” and “The Contours” are musically and lyrically the best things he’s done in ages Quite a devastating album if you’re willing to listen closely
It is so damn sad. And in that respect it feels very different from other Owen albums and more meditative. This one also sticks out to me as maybe one of the biggest growers of his album but damn some of the music is amazing. The end of dead for days and the guitar part a minute into wanting and willing is just chefs kiss.
Got my test press bundle yesterday and listened once. It's really fucking good. Reminds me of the older stuff with the benefit of the better production of King of Why's. Have a feeling this is gonna end up pretty high on my AOTY list.
Mike Kinsella expertly picks apart his bleak and frank stitches once more as Owen. Owen: "There's something freeing about being laidback on every level" Bedroomdisco | Musik, Reviews, Konzerte, Film, Live, Buch, Kultur (you'll want to translate this one to English, unless you want to brush up on your German.)
It's amazing how much working with Sean Carey has opened up Owen's sound. Even in the tracks that don't otherwise stand out to me (I Should've Known is pretty plain old Owen) there are layers and layers of instrumentation never fighting for space in the song, it just makes it all so much more interesting First 4 tracks are so strongly written its unfair
My record is supposed to get here today... I can't decide if I want to wait and have my first listen be on vinyl or if I just want to listen to the leak this morning... Dying to jam this thing in my headphones uninterrupted.
UPDATE! Just finished listening to it on vinyl for the first time. This album is beeeeautiful! After work I'll listen with headphones and follow along with the lyrics, but man, this shit's great. On first listen, I like it more than his last couple, I think. It's hard to really say though. Having KC on some of these songs makes it even cooler. I love her voice. "Mom and Dead" is HUGE.
Yeah I agree with everything you said. This is my current AOTY. I'm surprised more people aren't hyped on here.
Hopefully tomorrow when the album is officially out, people will pop in here and gush about it with us.
This is great, a lot of the lyrics seem to have a kind of sad/funny darkness. Found myself laughing a bit but then immediately feeling like "oh damn." That kind of album. guitar-work is lovely too, as expected
I typically haven’t been able to love Owen in the past but love AF. Liked the first single, excited to check this out.
is this record more of a like lush/bigger sound (if that makes sense) than previous Owen releases? I'm about 5 songs in and don't recall the ones I had listened to in the past being in this realm.
