beneath the static haze is one of their best songs I’m so stoked

not listening to the rest until I listen in full

 

very first impression is that this is very possibly their best record. the shorter runtime helps, and it is much more lively than i expected

 

Just got through this. Favorite song so far is the first one. I need time to digest, but I'm not 100 percent into this one.

 

Listened to this this morning, but was distracted discussing racial and economic injustice with my kids. I need to revisit it, but I loved all the singles and really enjoyed the opening track.

 

I've never really been able to latch onto this band but I try each time they release something. The opening track on this one has me hooked.

 

I like this! I like how it’s shorter than all of their other albums. I like their other albums but they’re just so long. Owel always reminds me of Deas Vail and I love(d) that band.

 

I agree I think the shorter runtime and pop elements work well for them

I really liked Paris so I'm excited to dig into this!

 

Pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this record after not really vibing with some of the singles!

"So It Goes," "Good for You," and "Time Will Make Children of Us All" are early standout tracks for me

 

This is fucking excellent.

 

We All Get Lost is their best song hands down

 

I love this. It's become the thing I put on when I don't know what else I want to listen to.

"So It Goes" dropped the day after I had to put my dog down and that song still wrecks me every time.

 

Yeah I love all of this now, I wasn't too hot on it the first listen.

 

So I didn’t really listen to any singles and spontaneously decided to download the album before a big trip last weekend and… uhh… this is like absolutely fantastic?

I wasn’t expecting this kinda RnBish vibe in a lot of the songs, but it fits them really well. Production and mixing is just top notch too (“We all get lost” is a prime example). I also think Jay really stepped up his game lyrically on this one.

This album kinda came out of nowhere for me and I’m super impressed.

Also, I could maybe listen to that guitar part in “Play” on repeat forever.

 

I really like this album but haven’t been returning to it too much for some reason. Maybe because I’ve been listening to Big Thief and BCNR so much.

 

I remember enjoying this when it came out and listening a few times, but after putting it on today without very clear expectations, it really blew me away.

 

Is this band pronounced kinda like “Oh well” with the emphasis on the “well?” In my head I’ve always pronounced kinda like “Owl” but with an “oh” sound instead of an “ow” sound

 

I believe there was an interview where it's pronounced Oh Well, by the band with the emphasis on the well.
