This has kind of opened up discussion about that horrible corner of twitch we always knew existed. Twitch (just like Twitter YouTube Facebook and Instagram) needs to really weed this stuff out instead of hiding behind the first amendment as an excuse to do nothing.
I think it is kinda difficult for a growing brand to get rid of their biggest draws. You look at guys like Tyler1 who have been banned entirely and the fanbase they draw. Twitch needs people like that. They are big money draws. Unfortunately, being a shitty person is a selling point in a lot of different arenas. Its gross and shouldn't be the case, but its the world we live in.
So we're coming up fairly soon on 2 years since this has been released. I played this pretty religiously up until about the new year. At this point though I find myself only coming back when a new map or character is released. Maybe that's enough for some people but it's gotten a little stale for me. I'd love to see some new competitive modes or something that really shakes things up.
Awesome thanks! I knew it was sometime this month, but wasn't sure if he'd be allowed to play in Stage 2 or have to wait until Stage 3.
looks like Briggite will probably hit next week with Hanzo changes hitting PTR sometime around then too.
I feel like this is partly why I haven’t really supported OWL since it began, it’s honestly hard to give that my support and attention if they’re going to utilize people who use homophobic language, use far-right imagery, or engage in sexual misconduct. Especially since the game itself promotes tolerance and acceptance with its characters and lore.
I wonder how many people really are aware that "pepe" has been turned into a far-right symbol? Also, heard that Undead has gone back to China due to issues with his partner and cheating/pregnancy (guess he's now nicknamed 'undad'). So much shit is going on in the background and this league is only just starting. Might have been the same with other esports leagues, I just never paid any attention until OWL.
Ah yes, give a meme power it doesn't actually have by being afraid of it. What a bunch of naive people
I don't think people are afraid of it, so much as just stamping it out. It has a new meaning now (unfortunately, or not), so it has no reason being used or seen on their streams. Granted, Blizz is only really doing it because it could lose them viewers, but whatever.
Pepe has been established as a legitimate hate symbol and Blizzard are correct in cracking down on it.
Efforts are being made to crack down on it. I don't follow any other esports but could they be doing better?
