Yes, but just in terms of games/developers making really great strides towards correcting this recently(gone home, Life is Strange, Tracer being LGBT etc), and a minority of players are still vocally disgusting to set us back.

 

I think part of the problem is that such a large portion of the audience is this younger, internet savvy crowd. You have people that have grown up with online video games and are totally cool with dropping slurs due to a bit of anonymity. It's unfortunate that the online gaming community is a toxic wasteland. I think as we see the population age, we see less and less of it.

I can't even play games with a hot mic unless I'm in a group. If I don't mute, I end up reporting anyone with a mic on because they are disgusting human beings, for the most part.

 

Oh yeah. It's definitely the online FPS trash-talking crowd who have sprouted up. Not all online FPS/MMO players of course. I also never use a mic unless I'm in a private chat. Sounds terrifying to hear what a group of randos would say in a match of BF1 or Overwatch.

 

Another big factor is that developers encourage this behavior by not cracking down on it. There needs to be more zero tolerance of it, up to permabanning offenders in my opinion. You want to be a racist/homophobic/xenophobic/general asshole? Fine, enjoying getting locked out your $60 game.

 

There needs to be a cease and desist of pandering to those people. You want to be taken seriously? Then stop letting asshole fill your games with verbal sewage. Teach those people some life lessons the hard way.

 

Bit late to the game but are people playing this on PC, PS4, Xbox One? Ended up buying myself a PS4 last week and picked up Overwatch so was wondering if anyone on here plays on PS4? I'm still trying to come to terms with playing an FPS on a console though...

 

I play on PS4 (occasionally) and on PC (less than occasionally)

 

Plenty of us in here play on PS4, actually. One day I'll also play it on PC. Have to build that PC first.

 

PS4 player as well.

Haven't played in three days. I'm pretty sure this is my biggest break from the game.

 

HE PLAYING OVERWATCH ALERT

 

Going from PC to PS4 has been a huge shift for me. I never got higher than level 15 on PC because I played in spurts and always played alone save for a select few times I had a friend or two online. That being said, people always made sure team comp was decently solid and my win/loss ratio was fairly even. PS4 (level 11 now, but catching up fast, have only had it for a week or two) has been great in the way of playing with friends, but geez, if we don't compose most of our own team in quick play, people seem to have no care or concern with team comp at all. They ignore the prompts on the right, we'll have an Attack game with two Hanzos, a defense game with two Genjis, and I think up until last night someone has picked healer maybe one out of every ten games. A friend and I played for hours the other night (and he's pretty damn good) and kept getting squashed because there was no semblance of teamwork across the board at all.

Lessons learned? A bunch of kids got PS4s with Overwatch for Christmas and I guess I'm my squad's Mercy from here on out.

 

Sure you're playing QP if there's two hanzos/genjis?

Also, don't expect comp much in QP. I know I only go in it to practice characters before jumping back into competitive, where team comp is usually (depending on your rank) an actual thing.



Taking a couple-day break from comp. Played Zen last night for a few matches in QP as a tuneup, while talking with a friend in PS4 chat, so I had the game on mute just because. Surprisingly I didn't lose either game. Didn't even die in the first one. Kind of funny.

 

Apparently this is just a big difference from PC to PS4 - I only ever played QP on PC and never had issues with team comp, PS4 just seems to be a totally different story.

 

Yeah, I wouldn't know, though eventually I'll play it on PC. Most people just seem into screwing around on anything that's not competitive. I go in knowing it's a bit of a crap shoot. If I'm looking to play serious and want to win, I'll see during character select what people go for, and if it's apparent our team is boned before the countdown ends, I bounce.

 

Anyone on ps4 right now? My roommate and I will need a third for 3 v 3
