If a game is going badly and I need to start trying to carry, I usually switch to either Soldier 76 if we're lacking attack, or Zarya if people are just dying too quickly. The shield's are usually enough to help turn the tide.

 

It sounds then like your only real ticket out is to play a healer with other DPS friends who are good at their jobs so you win enough to move away from the people who insta pick 3 Hanzos on attack.

 

Ya definitely a victim of solo queue misery. I think that that's turning alot of people off the game. Blizzard would benefit from trying to address this.

I got into a shouting match because for three games in a row I matched with this one dude who, if we lose the first objective, just goes into fuck it mode and will just run around the map doing nothing. His argument is that he just wants XP which is fine but when I said you get more XP with medals and wins people got on my case for taking it too seriously and that I should only do competitive mode. It really can be frustrating on quick play.

 

Also that's just stupid? I can't remember the last time I won without losing the first objective.

How do you think they should address solo queue hell? I feel like there isn't really too much they could say that they haven't already

 

I only play tanks or healers and I'm surprised I already at am 2700 rank.

granted it did help I went on a crazy win streak but still I hardly use offensive characters.

 

Yeah I'm pretty much exactly the same. I contribute it to the fact that I play a lot of Zenyatta who gets so many kills

 

Yeah I play mostly Zen/Lucio unless it calls for a Mercy.

It also helps a lot of people on Xbox 1 ranked tend to always pick offensive characters/Mei so I get my pick.

 

You're right there's really not much else at this point outside of a character cap. The counter argument though is if you get on a team and see 4 hanzos, nothing is stopping you from quitting the match.

 

Wow that's awesome. I peaked around 2500 but then crashed hard and I'm just above 2000 now. And like you I basically only heal as Lucio or Zen. Are you mostly solo queuing?

 

Yeah I think I play solo queue ranked a good 75% of the time.

I hate playing casual matches vecause they are just so bad.

 

That's pretty much just how it is - QM is for practicing and competitive is where you go if you want to have anything resembling a team comp.

The hardest pill to swallow is that the MMR system *generally* does its job, and you place where you belong. I had to learn that the hard way when I was playing Heroes of the Storm back in alpha. I think MMR hell does exist in a sense in that if you tank your MMR at the start while you're learning, and you play a ton of games, it gets a lot harder to move your rank up even when you've improved. But it definitely is possible.

Once I accepted that I was playing with bad players because I wasn't the best myself, I focused more on improving my play to the point where I could carry. I used to play supports in HotS and OW because I was too afraid of being bad with "carries". So I just sucked it up and learned from watching streamers, and I changed my crosshairs to make my shots more accurate, and that's how I eventually got up to diamond this season.

Basically I was just so sick and tired of people not playing right that I forced myself to become so good that I'd carry my team so I could advance and get out of there lmao.

 

When I was learning this game, I found myself saying "FUCK THIS FUCKING TRACER AGGGGHFJFBFBF" more than any other character, she was definitely super frustrating to play against when the person playing her was good, it felt like she was just eating my team alive and that we would have to change our whole comp around just to counter her.

So I vowed to become that Tracer :D

 

Subbing as I finally caved and bought this the other day!

Cannot bloody beat Junkenstein's Revenge on medium difficulty though :/ I keep going as Ana, as nobody else ever seems to want to go her, but then I end up with a Soldier 76 that doesn't seem to know that they have a heal ability... So I'm spending the majority of my time healing when shit hits the fan with the final wave and always the last one standing.

I guess I'm going to struggle while I'm still a low rank as I'm being placed with other low rankers. Any tips though for the noob?

 

General tips, or JR-specific tips

 

JR for now as I can't hack being unable to beat medium difficulty

 

Best advice I can give you is to insta-lock McCree and carry the team, ask the Ana to use her stim on you when you use Dead Eye, and save it for when the bosses come out. Have her sleep the boss so you have a longer window to get the ult to line up for an auto kill, it takes longer on bosses. So I guess duo-ing with a friend who can play Ana and support you is your best bet. 76 and Hanzo are really just there to lighten the load for you two.

 

Awesome! I'll need to get some practice in with using McCree by the sounds of it. I played as him once on quick play against an entire team of Bastions so my first impression wasn't too great...

 

Wrecking D.Va's as Zarya is my favourite thing. When I see the Defence Matrix go up, that's what makes me all warm and happy inside.

 

I'm sure we discussed this back before even Ana was released but what resources/videos would you suggest now that we're deep into the game? Every guide I read/watch is usually a standard description of the character. Really lacks the details more advanced players need like mouse settings, fps rate, etc.

 

Looking forward to some more Sombra hype tomorrow to keep me occupied at work

 

Did it! Really couldn't get to grips with McCree, but managed to do it as Ana with the assistance of an awesome McCree. Just takes a little bit of communication where I let them know who I'm sleeping so they leave them well alone and don't wake them up instantly!

like, its to the point now where theyre just fucking with us. Ana didnt have any of this bullshit attached to her. im all for new characters, and i dont mean to sound so entitled, but this ARG hasnt really been fun nor has it made me look forward to Sombra more. we know just as much about her now as we did 2 months ago.
