Just finished episode 9 of season 3. Easily the best episode of the season so far and one of the best of the series up to this point. Edit: Just finished the final episode of season 3. Overall I liked this season the most. Its main focus was the treasure hunting aspect, which is what I always wanted the show to do. The stakes were high and stayed high until the end. If they ended the show right here I’d be satisfied with how everything wraps up. That said, I’m glad season 4 has been announced though, especially with the ending that points to them hunting for Blackbeard’s ship. Bring on season 4.
Yeah I was not a fan of big john. Not only was the character annoying, but every time the actor was on screen he was stale and his line delivery sounded like he didn’t want to be there.
crazy that no one has facial hair, sunburns, chapped lips, etc on this island they've been stuck on for a month or whatever... haha
Finished up the season. Once again, I was entertained! Some of the stupid started to shine through a little bit at the end as they kinda rushed everything to get the story wrapped up, and the set up to next season was kinda dumb, but hey…I’ll prob tune in to watch the next hunt hah
It would have been a good ending for the show because it wraps up all of the stories since season 1, but I kind of view seasons 1-3 as a trilogy and season 4 will be the start of a brand new story.
It just felt very rushed at the end there. Ward went through like 3 different directions/angles in the finale it seemed lol. And they find the gold and 18 months later...what has happened? Apparently it wasn't enough gold to make them very rich as they're back to their "old lives" as John B said. Was there no attempt in that 18 month time span to go back and excavate to get the rest of the insane amount of gold? And now the implication is they're gonna become professional treasure hunters? Oh and also Raffe and Topper, those storylines seemed to just end suddenly with no real proper ending, we got the tease of mroe tension between Pope and Raffe but nothing came of it before the end, and Topper is pressing charges one minute and rolling his eyes at the heroes the next time we see him haha I also wasn't expecting both Ward and Big John to die. Part of that was due to Ward's insane and abrupt gear shifting, but yeah. Again, I was very entertained by the treasure hunt throughout the entire thing. But they definitely seem to struggle with the script here and there. The treasure hunting is fun but also might lose its novelty as they grow up from being kids to young adults. it's more fun and whimsical and goonies-esque when it's 16/17 year olds treasure hunting and not 22 year olds haha
Oh I'd also like to add Kiara's parents to the above observations about plot lines that seemed a little unresolved, if that's the right word. We went from what they did to them cheering at the end....I need to know that redemption arc there, I needed to see Kiara and JJ smack them in the face with a big ole piece of gold or something lol https://www.theringer.com/tv/2023/3/3/23622768/outer-banks-season-3-showers-pogues-dirty This has some laughs in it, but the biggest for me is the "Jayj" observation.
Yeah the switch personalities of Ward were nonsensical. Him trying to get the gold in the finale was out of left field since he supposedly “changed”. As for Topper and Rafe, I assume they’re going to continue using them as semi-antagonists going forward and pretend the 18 month time jump didn’t resolve anything with them and the pogues. Sarah and Rafe are probably going to fight over the family name if I were to guess. It definitely felt rushed. The show runners probably didn’t know if a S4 would happen and they clearly tried to wrap everything up as quickly as possible by the S3 finale just in case.
The show runners said we’ll be getting flashbacks during the 18 month jump in S4 so maybe we’ll see how JJ and Kiara mended things with her parents. If I was Kiara I would I wouldn’t be cool with them again probably but who knows what happened.
Big John was pretty entertaining by the end because he annoyed the hell out of my wife and that made it so much more fun. I love that it felt like he shouted 98% of his dialogue.
definitely expected to be much further along than three episodes by now when I posted this. feels like it lost some of the stupid fun magic.
Can someone who remembers give me a brief summary of what happened last season. I can’t remember at all
