Hey everybody... it's Ken, the drummer from Out of Service. New to the forums, but @teebs41 told me I should get in on the action. AMA
Welcome to chorus!!! I am glad you decided to join us! I loved the album. What’s your favorite song on Morning?
That's a tough one. I think it is probably what has become our de facto single, The Whole World. It's definitely not the most complicated in terms of technical stuff on the drums, but it is just so fun to dig into live. The crazy thing is that we never actually played it as a full band until after the album was finished. Teebs laid down the scratch track and we built it from there. I think the fact that it is still really new to me makes it special. Second would be Blindly Accepting Broken Glass. That is just as fun to dig into, but pretty technical, especially at the end. We've been playing it in practice and shows for at least two years, and it still hasn't gotten old. That one actually evolved quite a bit, so it's been fun to see it find it's sweet spot over time.
Greetings. Huge fan of the record. 1. Favourite song from the album to play? 2. What were song bands/albums that inspired you while writing? 3. Part of the album you're most proud of? 4. Thoughts about pineapples on pizza? 5. favourite pizza toppings?
That seriously means so much. Drums have been a mega part of my life, and it has been so great to play with guys I've known since I was like 10. It's surreal honestly. 1. Favourite song from the album to play? The Whole World 2. What were song bands/albums that inspired you while writing? I'll be honest on this one. Science Fiction came out a few weeks before we laid down the tracks. In the past I've tried to do stuff that has been more Carter Beauford than anything else. Whatever your stance is on BN in hindsight, I was so impressed by the space they gave throughout the entirety of the album. Teebs, Mike, and Brian are just so good at what they do. I wanted to step back and let the songs take themselves where they needed to go without trying to force myself on them, similar to Science Fiction. 3. Part of the album you're most proud of? I think The Whole World and The Things We Want the Most. Those songs we literally wrote instrument by instrument. Teebs laid down the guitar in the studio and we built them from there. 4. Thoughts about pineapples on pizza? Love it, but my one daughter is allergic to pineapples, so I don't get to indulge much. 5. favourite pizza toppings? Over the last year I've gotten really into mushrooms. A place near us put canned mushrooms on one time though, so I've realized how much of a risky order it can be. It's like Russian Roulette every time I get it from someplace new.
13/4. Check out the end of Blindly Accepting Broken Glass. I really like how we play 2/4 on the drums over 3/4 on the guitar in that one too.
Favorite bands to listen to? I hear some stuff from a bunch of bands on the album, a little bit of Thrice, some Wilhelm Scream, and also Wolves and Machines.
@KBIZ Do you like chick Fil a? If you press the album on vinyl can I buy it from you with chick fil a coupons?
@KBIZ what are your thoughts on: Blink-182 Taking Back Sunday Hawthorne Heights Senses Fail Story Of The Year Anything involving Andrew McMahon
Hi @KBIZ big fan of the album. Great work on it. I can see why you wanted to join us since you couldnt make the radio interview tonight! Welcome to Chorus! What are some bands you would love Out of Service to tour with? First dream bands/pipe dream ones Second more local/mid level bands that would be a good fit on a bill with you guys
@KBIZ what are your thoughts on the band OWEL? Do you know them? And why won't @teebs41 check them out already?
So I have really diverse tastes... Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Bon Iver, Can't Swim, and Typhoon Have been in heavy rotation lately.
I would love to tour with Foxing, Manchester, and Radiohead. They all seem like such chill dudes who handle attention well. Locally, Can't Swim and Caracara would be two bands I'd be psyched to play with.
