I wonder if the oso oso fandom exists in a smaller bubble than most people think. I think it was @Craig Ismaili who saw them at a house show over the summer and said most people left when they went on.
I saw them at a house show and they didn't go on last (the last band that played lived in the house) but crowd was definitely biggest for them. Other touring band was Hodera tho and there was like three local bands total so
Yeah S1D is definitely a better label and these bands are better off with people like Jamie making sure they get the push they need, but if i recall, it initially worked out ok for Transit and Man O with Listen & Forgive and Man Overboard.
That's true, it was the second record around the block that killed them haha PBC first album on Rise killed them though
Yeah the whole PBC signing was weird because it felt like the people at Rise had no interest in promoting their album to begin with. As for Transit / Man Overboard I really can't blame rise for not wanting to push those albums as hard lol. Oso Oso are definitely not as big as they seem with the hype from Yunahon, seeing them open for The Hotelier and for Mom Jeans / Prince Daddy the reaction from the crowd was noticeably smaller. I think people that are tuned in to that scene definitely see them in the same tier but there are a lot of casual fans of Mom Jeans and Prince Daddy that just make them much bigger bands right now.
Transit, Man Overboard, AL4W and MDAM all released solid Rise debut records and then all released really bad sophomore Rise records. PBC record was just bad. Daytrader also signed to Rise and died right away The same thing seems to be happening now with The Flatliners and The Movielife who just signed to Rise and released albums that I don't think were that well received
I did when it came out, But I went back to it recently and only really enjoyed like 3 tracks. I love the artwork though
They weren’t the last band (as Casey noted Mom Jeans was) but about half the crowd stayed outside smoking and talking and then everyone came back in for Mom Jeans. No one except me basically was singing along to Oso Oso’s set
I have never heard of Mom Jeans til like, a month ago, on this board. I have no desire to listen based on what people here say. Along the lines of those kind of bands, I listened to the Prince Daddy record. I was ready to turn it off after the first two songs, but by the end I liked it and I'm not sure why haha
Honestly Mom Jeans is not that bad lol, I didn't know their reputation and listened on band camp a couple months ago and thought "hey this is alright" and while I will never go back to it, a lot of you like TMP and Free Throw so kind of a weird punching bag to pick imo Edit: referring to the hate in general, not in this thread
S1D’s promo campaigns, emails, social media posts etc. were pretty much the only ones I ever actually paid attention to because they were always unique and interesting. Seems like an extremely bizarre decision to let Jamie go from a business standpoint and a cultural standpoint with the overwhelming respect for her by bands/journals in the scene. If I was signed to the label I’d be feeling very worried about where they are heading.
i know some people i was talking to said they'd be surprised if S1D put out anything soon. i know chris farren and AW said they were looking for new labels, wondering what's going to happen with this kississippi record
