Basking for me, with this possibly being second in the long run. I’ll give sore thumb another shot but it did nothing for me when it came out.
Totally agree Sore Thumb has the most variety. Imagine thinking computer exploder, describe you, and pensacola all sound like the same song.
All of the previous sore thumb songs mentioned, specifically "pensacola" and "describe you" but also "father tracy" seriously kick so much ass
listened to this again while on a run and it was fine. very middle-of-the-road, low-risk album put on the new Parannoul right afterward and the sheer quality increase almost gave me whiplash - immediately started running at a faster pace
Kind of how I feel, it’s pleasant and there’s a couple of really good songs but a lot of it just fades into background noise for me
This is not an album to sprint to, sure, more an album to enjoy on a contemplative zone 2 long run on a gorgeous sunny day.
A bit short to long run to, but I can appreciate that kind of thing too. Basking, Yunahon, and Sore Thumb are that for me. Like I was saying before tho, I would love to hear him stretch out the sound of some of his more experimental tracks. Would be so dope to get a full album of stuff like Computer Exploder, Dig, Charlie, or even gb/ol h/nf and Father Tracy. I'm also glad someone called out For the Boats as a full album of "weirder" tracks because I was huge on State Lines, maybe even more than Oso. I've been a big fan of Jade's songwriting for awhile so it's not like I'm unfamiliar with his work. This album just feels like he's coasting a bit - with the exception of a few tracks. Seesaw and Other People's Stories in particular are great.
(SHOW REVIEW) Oso Oso, Pictures of Vernon, and Brackish at the Kung Fu Necktie Show review from Monday night!
I loved Basking, liked Sore Thumb, and felt pretty disappointed by this on my first couple of listens... but by the third or fourth listen something had clicked for sure. All killer no filler.
Tigers Jaw and Oso Oso at Bell's... Going to need to make up an excuse for a work trip back to Kalamazoo
Just grabbing my ticket to join the "initially a bit indifferent, now lovin' this stonking album" crowd - feels good, well done oso oso!
