I already said it was a great album on its own merits, just hasn’t clicked with me in a bigger way yet. sorry bout it?
I didn’t quote anyone I wasn’t talking about anyone no I was talking about the guy who specifically said “I guess he’ll never make anything as good as basking again.” horrible take I can’t support even thinking something like that I prefer to root for artists I like to make great stuff
yeah you know what that’s my bad for taking it personally, I didn’t really think you were talking about me directly or anything really so idk why I responded like that. I think to me most of the responses I have seen have been comparable to my own where it’s like “yeah this is another good record and I can see it growing on me but maybe not topping xyz older record(s)” and that’s probably why I took it as such. which, in all fairness, it *is* a bit of a limited perspective to even bring their prior work into the discussion in a qualitative sense this early on in the album’s life cycle. I think it can lead to some people hardening their stances so as to not be proven wrong if something were to grow on them, and it leads some to write albums off prematurely. I do try my best to be mindful of it and take albums on their own merits, but it can be hard not to draw those comparisons. anyway, sorry for getting testy, I have a lot of love for you Jake.
This album is really good, but it needs just one more track, like a good closer (I say this as someone that's obsessed with "charlie"). Hoping there's bonus tracks later or something. Random thought that I can't rationally explain but I think "all of my love" sounds like it would be a theme song to a Bill Lawrence type TV show.
I think the album still sort blends together for me but I do really love it and have listened to it constantly since Thursday I also think it could’ve benefitted from another song but the closer is perfect imho. Can’t explain it but it reminds me of Joyce Manor in a weird way
Yeah this has grown on me a ton with each listen. Right up there with Yunahon and Basking in the Glow for me now.
oso albums tend to do that for me, I'm not going to pass judgement until I'm 10 or so plays through. currently I am leaning towards dead center of their discography though
imo Sore Thumb easily has the most variety in sound of any of their albums by a long shot, kinda baffling take for me to see someone say it sounds like one song tbh
