I haven't seen it, but it seems like there was so much buzz around Pamela when The last showgirl came out then the hype fizzled away. How come the momentum didn't remain? Just better performances came out? Lack of continued campaigning? When I read the early reviews for that movie, it was almost like she was a shoe in.
smaller movie lots of good performances this year Demi and Pam had the same narrative and The Substance is a better/bigger movie
There is one last showing of sing sing tonight. Might try and make that one. Not gonna bother watching wicked or Emilia Perez.
I am really sad that they won't be doing the "Penis or Vagina?" song. People should be forced to see that like the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Challengers getting snubbed from...everything is such a huge disappointment. What a film. Seeing The Brutalist this weekend, and perhaps Nickel Boys if I can fit it in. After that, I'll just need Emilia, I'm Still Here, and Conclave.
Rapid fire thoughts: No Denis for Best Director for Dune: Part Two is egregious. An absolute travesty. This probably puts Dune: Messiah on the Return of the King arc: first two movies in the trilogy clean up the technical awards, final movie gets the major ones. No Best Foreign Picture nom for Kneecap? Booooooo. No Best Picture nom for Sing Sing? Boooooo, but A24's marketing failed it. Also for Sing Sing: Give Best Actor to Colman Domingo, not Adrien Brody or Timothée Chalamet. No Challengers for Best Original Score? Boooooo. One of the best albums of last year, movie score or not. The Substance with nominations in 4 of the 5 major categories; a crazy, amazing achievement for horror. Never happens for the genre. Hasn't come close to happening since The Silence of the Lambs (if you consider it horror) swept all five major awards. Seemed like Mikey Madison's Best Actress was a lock but Demi Moore's Golden Globes speech tipped the scales. I'd go 65/35 for Moore/Madison. THIRTEEN nominations for Emilia Pérez? Transparently still need to watch and I think it's The Brutalist's Best Picture to lose but I have a sinking feeling this might be developing in a Crash, Green Book, or Shakespeare In Love situation.
also I get it and deserved but really funny that every one got a nomination for acting in A Complete Unknown except Elle Fanning
