I still remember around 10 years ago some old Hollywood producer who is also a member of the Academy admitted after the fact that he voted for 12 Years a Slave to win Best Picture despite never seeing it. His vote was out of white guilt plus it had the marketing vibes of an Oscar film.
This post below has a point because Tom Cruise is starring in Alejandro G. Iñàrritu's next film which is being released next year though.. him getting an honorary oscar then actually winning one.. potentially!
