Its hard to speak on generally. Write good characters, tell good stories. Its irresponsible when they use it as a platform to spout dumbshit and act like its backed by history.
Damn they snubbed Shannen Doherty, Michelle Trachtenberg, & Chance Perdomo from the Oscar’s in memoriam segment. I know there is a short amount of time but each of those beautiful souls have done work that I have enjoyed and grown up with. May they all rest in peace
IMO, Bernard Hill missing was even more bizarre. The only actor with prominent roles in both Titanic and Return of the King, two of the three films that share the record for most Oscar wins.
This is heartwarming to see, the country of Latvia celebrating the filmmakers and the movie Flow's oscar win.. the country's first oscar win in general
I want to see I'm Still Here, but it's not coming out here in Norway until October 3rd, lolol. Surely I can watch via streaming well before then.

Not sure if this got shared in here, but with all the final ratings factored in, viewership actually went up this year. Oscars Final Ratings Tick Up to 19.7 Million Viewers, Biggest in 5 Years
As far as an awards shows go, I feel like the bigger ones have been pretty strong. The VMAs and Grammys were very good and The Oscars were pretty solid too. And I also think that they’re seeing the benefit of putting them on streaming services instead of gatekeeping them on network or cable TV.
Is the ad money the same for people streaming versus traditional television? If they are losing TV viewers and replacing them with streaming viewers that is what matters. A 1 percent increase when introducing a new way to watch and not factoring in population increase is not what they wanted when they are still way behind the pre-pandemic numbers. At a certain point those multi-million dollar campaigns are not going to be worth it.
The problem is that they aren’t/will never capture the youth. We dorks probably all watched as teens/in our 20s. The young people now simply do not give a shit, and I don’t know if that will change.
Not just awards but movies generally. They don't love movies in the same way. One of my students just straight up said she doesn't have the attention span for them.
Feels very similar to the shift from novels to movies, novels have survived but don’t cost millions of dollars to create
Just saw the Brazilian film "I'm Still Here", which won the Oscar for best foreign film. Incredible film; sad story. Highly recommend
Wow, that was quick, haha. "Online engagements surpassed both the Grammys and Superbowl" - dang. Yeah it seems all the reaction online was that people loved him as host, and his monologue on Youtube has millions of views. Loving this big upswing in popularity Coco is having in his career
