September 5 is a decent film, nothing amazing but I saw that trailer about 50 times in the theater the last 3 months.
In terms of Doc Feature: The Remarkable Life of Ibelin got snubbed. I cried like a baby during that movie.
The nominated doc Soundtrack To A Coup d'Etat is available for right now for free on Kanopy if you got a library card.
gonna see Nickel Boys this weekend, looks like Sing Sing is already out of my local AMCs again. might see if a different theater is showing it
My parents watched Emilia Perez the other day and said they absolutely loved it (after I warned them it’s gotten some mixed reviews) but I still refuse to see it lol
I was mistaken. They were as high as the 43 as 81 in critical tabulations. Definitely real movies that people have seen. Best Movies of 2024 - CriticsTop10
yeah I mean it's super frustrating when stuff that hasn't gotten even close to a wide release gets nominated
Still need to see a bunch of the nominees, but mainly The Brutalist, Nickel Boys, and A Complete Unknown.
Challengers getting shut out is actually the worst Still need to see I'm Still Here, but ranking the BP nominees: The Substance Anora Nickel Boys The Brutalist Dune: Part Two Conclave A Complete Unknown Wicked Emilia Perez I really love the top 6, ACU and Wicked are both pretty good crowdpleasers, and Emilia Perez is ass.
I feel like A24 botched the Sing Sing campaign, hope they announce a streaming date soon or bring it back to theatres! I am seeing a lot of people saying they have been unable to see it or missed that it was even in theaters. Also seeing people saying Colman could be a contender if the campaign for the movie was better.
i believe they put it back in a handful of theaters, and it is getting a Blu-ray release in March, so i'm sure it'll have more eyes on it soon
If anyone needs a cheat sheet, I made this list of every film nominated: Every Movie Nominated at the 97th Academy Awards
Okay wait actually it looks like it’s back in Chicago, but it’s only playing at 11 AM at the nearest theater and every other showing is in the suburbs. Regardless, going to try and see it this weekend!
yeah, A24 is oddly selective with which in-house releases get UHD treatments. still bummed I Saw the TV Glow didn't get one (although the disc still looks fantastic). like i like Kelly Reichardt's work, but why is her latest film getting a 4K when I Saw the TV Glow made at least 5 times as much in box-office returns?
It’s the first time since 1977 that all the Best Actress nominees are in a Best Picture nominee too! Which is kind of wild to think about!
