i mean it wont win editing but if it wins director, actor, cinematography, score and potentially supporting actress and screenplay with a nomination for pearce as well, I think it could win due to pull from all the guilds and as a success in totality argument the race is more open than it has been in recent years. there's good arguments for several movies. anora - frontrunner since the beginning conclave - strangely the inoffensive "everyone likes it" entertaining choice brutalist - overall excellence with all the guilds wicked - for the scale and leaning more with a massive success that still was "okay" dune 2 - same argument as wicked but is closer in quality to the indie picks emilia perez - seems like a bad movie and its fallen but the academy is more international and the international bodies seem to love this one
For the current GoldDerby odds: The Brutalist is currently favorite for Best Picture Mikey Madison is still favorite for Best Actress but her odds are going down, and Demi Moore is catching up Adrien Brody still favorite for Best Actor Saldana and Culkin still favorites for supporting Conclave and Anora favorites for the Screenplay awards Corbet favorites for Best Director The Wild Robot still favorite best Best Animated Feature but Flow is catching up a bit
I Saw the TV Glow doesn't seem to be getting any awards buzz. but Emilia Perez is. why is everything the worst. take me out of this timeline. oh good, this will make planning a watch party (ie choosing which of my friends' places to do it at) a lot easier. (one of them is recovering from a leg surgery. and my house has stairs for dayssss.)
That is what the Oscars do. Driving Miss Daisy over Do the Right Thing, Crash over Brokeback Mountain, Green Book over BlackKklansman.
If Robbie Williams's song Forbidden Road did got Oscar nominated.. honest his live performance would steal the show!
I feel like maybe it because the movie with the most iconic popular songs in 2024 can't be nominated because it's adapted from the stage, and they probably figured "if we do songs but then can't include Defying Gravity or Popular live then what is the point?"
