Can you appreciate a good steak if you never taste bad ones? Will you still understand great literature if you never experience grocery store smut?

We were talking about this somewhere else, but there are different types of bad. I know what the newest Captain America is going to be like, so there is nothing to chew on. There are lots of cheap, cynical films that tried and failed to get Oscars. Emilia Perez, though, is such a failure of good taste and decision-making that it can't really be put into words. You can watch the clip of the penis to vagina song and get an idea, but there is so much bad taste to behold.

I liked them all but the top half are significantly better than the bottom.

 

I really hope No Other Land wins best documentary feature because of this potential scenario!

I tried to watch the substance and Saturday Night. I forgot this had songs, theres almost no chance ill get through it

I did 15mins and tapped out

 

Complete Unknown is like a step up from Saturday Night with better acting and songs (so far)

 

Saturday Night is the definition of fine. It’s worth watching for PSH’s kid at least.

 

If there’s a thin line between good and bad, ACU is just above good and Saturday Night is just under bad. Both are part of a genre that I am not all that interested in

edit: again with the caveat that I need to finish ACU tonight. Maybe it gets better, but I can see it riding out the formula

 

on paper I should have disliked a complete unknown but it 100% worked for me

 

Why arnt you watching The Brutalist?

 

If I can get my wife to watch something with me it takes precedence. She wants to see the Brutalist but knows it’s a lost cause. I’ll watch it Friday/Sat night

Yeah ill see if mum wants to go. We watched the other Mike Leigh movies together. she loves to point out all the actors from her British crime shows.

 

I can't imagine accepting a nomination or even a win when Jean-Baptiste wasn't nominated.
