Silence is long and sad, but damn it's one of my favorite takes on religion, and it deserves more love

 

Also, a funny movie. The parents are horny, but in an endearing way!

Sadly, movie feels like it has had no legs since its win and I blame it on being on a streamer that’s buried it beneath 600 feet of Argylle, Wolfs and Ghosted.

 

I was glad that one got a full run at the arthouse theater in my town. I've only seen it once, but it was on the big screen rather than Apple TV, which definitely made it feel more like a real movie. Wild that there is no physical media release of it, though.

I have admittedly not seen No Country for Old Men but Parasite and Moonlight are two of my favorite films ever.

 

been a while since i've seen Moonlight (think i watched it right before the Oscars where it won). definitely need to revisit it soon.

 

I watched it on a plane and dont remember it, might revisit soon so Grimace can feel that his lists are appreciated

 

These are kinda lame but it's seems like a tradition before the Oscars every here to watch these so here

 

Back in IMAX theaters this Thursday for one night only.

Finally rewatched moonlight this year after having only seen it in theaters. It’s still basically perfect.

 

Yeah, I remember Dominick (?) saying at the time it might become one of those go-to movies white people cite to show they’re woke. But no, it’s just a perfect movie. Like, I unabashedly love “La La Land” and “Moonlight” is just on another level. So happy it won.

 

Still gotta think a bit on the major awards but right now for the technical awards my personal picks are:

Cinematography: The Brutalist
Editing: The Brutalist
Score: The Brutalist
Sound: A Complete Unknown
Visual Effects: Dune Part II
Production Design: The Brutalist
Costume Design: Wicked
Hair/Makeup: The Substance

 

Right now the only BP nominees I haven't watched yet Nickel Boys and I'm Still Here.

I know I will get Nickel Boys knocked out before Sunday.

 

don’t think i’ll be able to get to i’m still here since it’s in theaters still and my buddy can’t get it on plex. and then i won’t be watching emilia perez lol

 

I strongly recommend people go watch the Animated Short Film nominees if they’re playing in your area. If you live in/near a bigger city city then there’s likely at least one theater that plays them for a week or so. It’s always fascinating seeing the different art styles and forms of animation people can utilize that would never make it into a mainstream film. I haven’t seen this year’s nominees but am going to tomorrow

And on the flip side the Live Action Short Film nominees are consistently 90% dogshit Oscar bait about rape or children dying, I’m not being hyperbolic. Skip those.

 

I personally strongly dislike art that is about how art is politically powerful or can overcome hardship or whatever, so from the jump Sing Sing never appealed to me and I will probably never see it

Meanwhile Nickel Boys has a coincidentally similar premise (without the art stuff) and it was one of the most interesting movies of the year. I’m shocked something that relatively experimental slipped in

 

Impressed with myself for getting A Complete Unknown, The Brutalist, and September 5 knocked out in like a day and a half.
