Just watched hard truths. Should have gotten more love.

Annie Hall is a comedy. It’s more comedic than Anora.
Everything Everywhere All At Once as well, definitely more “comedic” even if it’s worse.

sure. i guess saying "funniest BP winner ever" and "BP winner that is the most comedic" isn't necessarily the same thing but that also seems to be placing a lot of importance on genre tags. like, who cares.

The Artist is a comedy too, it just wasn’t funny

The Apartment? I still haven’t seen that one but I know it’s a romcom. I’m not going back any further

It’s an interesting question that I hadn’t thought of before. EEAAO is my answer, that’s definitely an outlier across the board. Anora would be closer to a Departed but definitely more comedic.

I was wondering more about genres because its rare for a non serious drama to win

I’ve only seen 8 of the BP winners since 2010. There were so many years where a film I was not interested in seeing at all wound up winning. If that’s the case this year, my money is on Conclave

Of them I’ve only seen Green Book and it was bad. I don’t know if there’s any I’ll go back and watch. Maybe Argo?

Hmm in terms of BP winners of the 21st century the only ones I have not seen are A Beautiful Mind, Chicago and The King’s Speech

And because I care more about my own picks, my brain goes “oh of course - in 2001 Mulholland Drive won, Spirited Away won in 2002 and The Social Network won 2010 we all know that”

The most memorable thing about Argo was when I referred to it as a dad movie and people were as angry as I had ever seen.

The only thing I remember about The King's Speech is the weird angles. The only thing I remember about The Shape of Water was how cartoonish Michael Shannon was. A Beautiful Mind is probably the hardest to remember, but Crash benefits from being brought up so much about how bad it was.

The Shape of Water was one where halfway through the movie I thought to myself “why don’t I love this, this feels like it should be something I’d be all about”
