having just watched the substance … it’s weird to me that if anora is going to make a push at anything that it isn’t best actress
A little puzzled at that as well. Nothing against Demi, in that movie or in general, but I really found that Mikey Madison performance to be revelatory. The Oscars love a comeback narrative, though.
Look at Brendan Fraser.. that's for me the ultimate feel good comeback story, Hollywood loves a comeback story so I think Demi Moore will win Best Actress but Mikey Madison has a long career ahead of her so even if didn't win the Oscar for performance in Anora, she will get nominated and win an Oscar down the line.
between the two of them Best Picture - The Substance. I like horror, idk i guess i'm just biased like that. The Silence of the Lambs is the only horror film to have ever won in the category. Best Director - The Substance. she's a woman and yeah i'm biased like that, idgaf. the first woman to win was in 2009. only three women have won. Best Actress - Anora. that performance was such a nice surprise bc the only other things I'd seen her in were Better Things and Scream (and i guess OUATIH but i can barely remember her in that, or Margaret for that matter). I'd be ok with Demi tho bc I do like The Substance more and it would be one of the few instances where i'm fine with the Oscars doing a retrospective, lifelong career kinda thing. (Jamie Lee Curtis over Stephanie Hsu though I will not forgive) just don't give it to Karla ffs Best Original Screenplay - The Substance. a lot of body horror can be read as trans allegory regardless of whether that was the intent. I think, thematically, I Saw the TV Glow and The Substance sort of reach the same conclusion despite being two tonally wildly different movies. I came out only five years ago, and in the time since, it's taken me a long while to come to terms with the fact that I spent the first almost thirty years of my life as a male. I've learned that it's never too late to come out, and the time before isn't wasted, it's lived experience that defines who you've become. there's no use in longing for a younger, "better" version of yourself tldr aside from Best Actress I hope The Substance sweeps (full disclosure the only other two Best Picture nominees I've seen are Dune Part Two and Wicked Part One)
Demi would be also be the first best actress winner for horror since Jodie Foster for Silence Mikey will also have a lot more chances because every movie is just gonna have her Anya Taylor-Joy, Emma Stone, Florence Pugh, Saoirse Ronan, or Sophie Thatcher now
Exactly the win I was thinking of when I wrote that. Well, that one and Renee Zellweger in Judy. Mikey will obviously be fine and this movie/nomination will open up a lot of doors for her, but that's probably my favorite performance of last year in any category, so I'd love to see her win.
Saldana's GoldDerby odds going down. Ariana's going up. It's almost tied for best supporting actress now.
I liked this year's crop of best picture noms more than last year's as a whole. Would be totally cool with Anora, The Substance, The Brutalist, or Nickel Boys.
it’s all about animals and I get more anxious about watching them get hurt than I do humans. Even in animation, haha
Anora won best original screenplay at the WGA awards. I think this is over unless something wild happens at BAFTAs/SAG lol
Yeah, it's a done deal. Only possible upset I see at SAG is Conclave winning best ensemble, and even that I think would just be a one-off.
Yeah it was stunning. THAT scene was probably one of the most arresting things I’ve seen this year. Excited for more from that creative team
if brutalist wins big at BAFTA and SAG it very obviously still has a chance but yeah this seems wrapped up
