13/19 - not bad. pleasantly surprised by the zone of interest winning for sound. lily being robbed is one of the worst decisions the academy has made in recent history
Emma will probably have many more chances to win Best Actress but the jury is out on how many more Lily will have. It’s the same reason why I was hoping SZA would win at the Grammys this year. Marginalized people so often historically have less opportunities to win the big awards (although last year with Everything Everywhere was great!) or are constantly shut out despite giving stellar performances or releasing excellent bodies of work (Beyoncé). Emma gave a really great performance, probably my favorite performance of the year, but Lily was also really good and I just hope she has more chances in the future.
Killers is good and Leo and Lily were incredible. I think both De Niro and Marty show some wear and tear in it, though. A second watch made some of those flaws more apparent, but it is still very good and probably my favorite of the BPs The Irishman is one of the best American films of the past 20 years and something that I view as the culmination of Scorsese and De Niro’s careers
I think it is way too early to tell for sure but I think Dune 2 and Furiosa both have a reasonable shot for being in the picture for next year. With it's release date Eggers' Nasferatu seems to be making an Oscar race play.
Jesse Eisenberg's A Real Pain starring him and Kieran Culkin which got picked up by Searchlight at Sundance is getting a lot of early buzz.
Bradley Cooper spent years learning how to be a fake maestro for nothing. Things like that give some value to the Oscars.
only argument i can see against lily is she was in the longest movie of the five nominees and had the shortest performance
Outside of Gladstone (who really I only expected to win bc the whole world told me to) I saw it coming a mile away. The Academy is addicted to nominating-then-snubbing Scorsese’s stuff
